Tyra's Show Journal

Hi y'all,

You all know how much I love hanging out and keeping it low key with friends or going to see the latest movie to hit the big screen, but last night was different. I went to the taping of Fashion Rocks, which is a big celebration combining fashion and hot music. Plus, the night helps benefit a great cause -- cancer research.

As you know, season four of the talk show starts Monday (I am SO EXCITED, we have SO MANY big things planned), so I went to Fashion Rocks to present and talk to the media about the new season. I wore a gorgeous (and comfortable) Gucci red jersey wrap dress with a Dolce & Gabbana belt and a pair of fierce gold strappy sandals (not as comfortable as the dress). The outfit was designer, but all vintage from old collections. That's my new thing -- vintage fashion. I wear mostly vintage dresses on the talk show for season four too! Even my jewelry was all vintage on the red carpet. The pieces reminded me of my mama's jewelry when I was young. The fabulous (and stylish) Robert Verdi was covering the red carpet as a correspondent for the Tyra Show, when he saw me he said "Lions and Tyra and bears, oh my!" cuz my hair was SO big.

Get up close and personal with Tyra's fierce new wax figure.

Think you're staring at Tyra's evil twin? Not quite. But there are two Tyra's in The Big Apple, and they're both pretty darn fabulous to look at. Sporting a chic long black dress, a new wax-work version of Tyra hit the New York scene recently at Madame Tussauds. Now you can feast those gorgeous eyes of yours on Tyra's look-a-like, which is on display at the legendary wax museum.

Hi y'all,

It's finally getting cold here in New York. For a while the weather was pretty much the same as in Los Angeles, but now I'm finally wearing my winter coat and turning the heat on in my apartment. I'm LOVING life in NYC. I just step out my front door and there are people everywhere - even late at night. I went to the grocery store at 11pm the other night and the sidewalk was as crowded as it is during the daytime. People are running errands, the restaurants are packed and the city is alive. One thing I see a lot of in NYC, is working women. I see them in the morning, walking, heading to the subway, jumping on the bus, dropping their kids off - looking all cute, walking with a sense of pride and purpose.

Women who work in the city come from all over. There are five boroughs in Manhattan (The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island). I decided I wanted to do a special makeover show that would honor the women of all five boroughs and reward their hard work with some personal pampering, hot styling and fierce hair and makeup! I picked five women to make over, I even surprised some of them by showing up in a garbage truck, looking like a sanitation worker. They NEVER saw that coming!

Hi y'all,

OK, ever since the first season of the Tyra show - I always pitched my producers the idea of doing an entire show on the VAGINA. I had no problem talking about it and thought it would be a really important show for women's health. I was lucky my mama was always open about vaginal health and told me from an early age WHAT'S UP DOWN THERE! I can speak about it comfortably. But for some reason - my producers always said, "No Tyra. Not Now. It's too controversial." When I'm told "No" it makes me try harder....so FINALLY, in my third year on the air I finally pushed through the show I always wanted to do.

Honestly, I don't know why women are so uncomfortable talking about their vagina. I have women on my show who have NEVER gone to the gynecologist. With std's, ovarian cancer and so many health issues involving your vagina, you've got to take control and put your health first.

I think the show was worth fighting for and after you watch it next MONDAY, November 5th I hope you feel comfortable saying "it." VAGINA! VAGINA! VAGINA! Even typing it is freeing. VAGINA! VAGINA! VAGINA!
