No need for love potions, here's the science behind love revealed.
Love expert Andrew Trees visited the Tyra Show and shared with us his take on the science of love. Andrew helps us debunk all the rumors of dating, including whether or not to kiss on the first date. Here's a few scientific explanations for some of your biggest dating discussions.
To Kiss or Not to Kiss?
The age old question -- to kiss or not to kiss on the first date. When asked if it's better to just jump to the smooching or shake hands instead, Andrew explains that the right thing to do is a handshake! Apparently, a handshake greeting gives the girl a feeling that her potential new boy is masculine and maybe even sporty. So shake away, jocks!
The Dating Game
Okay, so you've got the "who" and "when" for the first date -- now to find the where. The pizza shop might be casual and cute with no pressure for pricey dinners, but Andrew warns about going this route. Instead, a candle light dinner is the way to go. This gives a sense of sense of security -- like the guy will be a good provider.
Pillow Talk
What DO you talk about?! Pick up lines don't go far past "you're hot," so once you've gotten that elusive first date, what should be on the conversation agenda. The results are shocking. Andrew says science shows that men find women more attractive if they downplay their successes. We obviously don't agree with this one, neither did Andrew, but suggested keeping the convo to pop-culture That'll keep things light and fluffy and will give you a chance to make easy to understand jokes. For the first date, just keep it fun.
What to Do, What to Do?
This one's pretty simple and easy to do -- go for a walk. Andrew explains that not only is this an inexpensive way to work off dinner, seeing bodies in motion makes them more attractive. It gets the adrenaline pumping and makes the sparks ignite.
At the Drive-In
So if you're going to do a movie, what kind should it be? Andrew says comedy. Obviously don't go for intense, gross-out humor but here's where you can talk about what kind of movies you both find funny. And a smile is most people's number one feature.
See Ya, Sweetie
Ah, the finale -- how to say good-bye. There's that kiss conundrum again! And the winner is -- a short hug. Andrew says that 20 seconds is all it takes for your brain's pleasure center to trigger. So go in for a quick squeeze -- and you might never have to let go.
