Look before you leap -- these little habits can kill you.
You may not give these habits much thought, but maybe it's time you start -- some habits can be deadly. Don't freak out just yet, these bad habits are easily broken with just a few lifestyle switch-ups. Here are the deadly dilemmas.
Burned By Your Razor
We're all guilty of using our disposable razors for way longer than we're supposed to. While a couple of days are okay, weeks and months are pushing it when it comes to your razor. Razors live in your moist, warm bathroom, which is basically a Petri dish for bacteria. Not only is a razor susceptible to accumulating bacteria, when you're shaving it's not uncommon to scratch or even cut yourself by accident. So toss out that used up Lady Bic -- or your next nick could lead to a Staph infection.
Caffeine Catastrophe
If there's one habit we completely feel you on, it's the caffeine overload. The sweet, dark nectar that is coffee is sometimes the only way to make it through the long, hard days -- but what about the nights? Not only can downing the caffeine lead to an addiction, it can cause anxiety, restlessness and even a twitch. Also, the abrasive liquid wreaks havoc on your gastrointestinal track. As for you party girls, mixing energy drinks and vodka might seem like the perfect way to keep the party going -- but at what cost? Mixing the stimulant and the depressant can lead to a dangerous heart rate and respiratory problems. Trust us -- late nights at the E.R are no way to keep the party going.
Diet Dilemma
Your late nights at the office understandably lead to a few trips to the closest fast food joint. We don't have to drive home the well-known risks of heart disease and clogged arteries that come along with fast fried foods. However, at the same time, it's also important not to overdo the calorie counting. If you're dieting, cut out the fat but make sure you're supplementing your nutrients. Cheese is a no-no, but dairy in moderation is good at preventing osteoporosis. It's admirable to be vegetarian and vegan, but keep a close eye on your iron intake. And of course, a good dose of chocolate is great for your mental health every now and then.
Tech-Tock
We know it's a digital world, and keeping in contact via Facebook, text and blogging is perfectly fine. But it's important to log off and put down the phone. Folks become so addicted to texting they start doing it while walking or even driving. We don't need to spell out just how much of a distraction that is. Also, communicating solely through Facebook can have devastating results -- on your social life. A lot of people find it easier to talk online because of shyness and the like, but it's important to socialize with actual people. A full retreat to the cyber world makes you less and less able to function in reality.
TV Terror
Television viewership has reached an all time high -- roughly FIVE hours a day for most people. It makes sense in a cash-strapped time that folks aren't going out as much, but what type of consequences is this having? Experts recommend keeping the TV out of the bedroom. For couples, the bedroom should be a place for sleeping, and of course extracurricular activities. A TV is a distraction and can ultimately hurt your relationship. For the kids, studies show that they're less likely to get out and be active if they have TV in their rooms. A less active lifestyle leads to childhood obesity and thus heart disease -- prices that are too expensive to pay at such a young age. Gather around the living room set for your shows, but lose the bedtime TV.
