guess_race.jpgOn this show, we met guests whose stories shocked us -- and we learned that ethnicity is much more than meets the eye. If you think people can't guess your race, join our group, submit your photo and ask the Tyra Show Community, "Can you guess my race?"

And, if you're constantly mistaken as a member of a different race -- and you're frustrated that people can never tell which race you belong to, share your story with the Tyra Show!

NEXT: Tyra Show Moments: July 6 - 10

I am Jamican and west Indian...people always mistaken me for half white half black...but im not! I jus look it.

Tyra im african american and my hair is long but people don't think its all mine.and they say there hair doesn't grow that long or think im mixed.and im just thinking why can't 100% black people have long good hair too.

i loved this show..because this can happen to many people. My moms spanish.russian and apchi indian and my dads black. i get complimentz when people think im peurtorican..or just mexican...and sometimes people think im just black but light..but then i always get that im mixed like black n spanish..but i just dnt like being prepared to just being black or just being spanish....because my mom and dad is not full black or just full spanish..so it buggs me..cuz i like being mixed..so when people say what do u consider yourself..black or spanish...i correct them by saying the whole thing..sayin im mixed wit this..but i dont consider my self one or the other i consider my self black.spanish.russian.apachi indian as in multi racial but sumtimez for short i say spanish n black lol but i just like being mixed because i was born this way so that makes u special and unique!

What I don't get with the asian girls is how they get all offended by just being called another asian race. Who cares!...I'm asian too and I've been mistakenly called by another asian race and it doesn't bother me. I accept it as a compliment. What other asians don't see is that we all came from the same anestors from a long time ago and over the thousands of years we all just sudden change to different languages, culture, styles, etc. So again I just don't get them unless they have a really good reason which I didn't think they gave a good one to see why they don't like being called something else than their own.

I thought this show was interesting. I am African American with a milk chocolate complexion. When other people like the woman on the show, say that they have it harder because of their darker skin, I don't get it. One of the least things I've had to worry about throughout my life was the color of my skin. Sure, I get insecure sometimes over it, but mostly because of other people and should you really care what other people think? Black men approach me all the time and no one has ever told me that, "You're pretty for a darker skinned woman." Not trying to take away from anyone elses experiences, but I agree with the "mixed," woman. You have to start by loving and accepting yourself first along with becoming more educated. On a shorter note, I wish that people were more scientific minded. If they were, they would realize that according to geneticists, the first ancestors of every human on this planet, originated in Africa and they had dark skin (to protect themselves from the suns rays). As humans spread out, they adapted to new environments and their skin, eyes, and physical make-up started to evolve in order to better survive in more colder or tropical regions. Genetically, we are all 99% similar. Why can't we stop focusing so much on our differences and start focusing more on our similarities as The Human Race?

Hi, I watched the show today and there's something I really don't agree with. Sometimes Tyra talked about 'nationality' as if nationality and race are the same thing, well, they're not. I come from a country (Brazil) where there's a lot of racial diversity, just like here in the States. Brazil was colonized just like the U.S., and for the last 500 years it received immigrants from all over the world. I, for example, am 100% white (portuguese background), blonde with frekles and one of my daughters has red hair and green eyes. I also have brazilian friends who have 100% japanese or german background. My point is: You cannot define race by people's nationality!!!! Nationality is geographic and race is biologic!!

I was watching your show today and it was very enlightening. The only problem with it, is that your facts about the people who fly the Confederate Flag, are raciest. I fly the flag outside and inside and to me it is Heritage not hate. My great grandparents before you and I were even thought of, fought for there land and for what they believed. There was no Confederate Battle Flag that flew on or over a slave ship. The south was not fighting for slavery it was about the north taxing us on things they had no right to tax, like our tobacco and other crops that we grow down here. The only reason people think the Confederate Battle flag means racism is because of the white supremacist groups like the "KKK" which not all southern people are in that group. So before you go on national television and say that flag means racism you may want to read up on your American History. Thank you have a good night.

what was the race of the girl at the end?

I am glad you had this show and this is so sad that young people are that ignorant. People are not in your skin and you are not in their skin IT DOES NOT KILL YOU TO SHARE WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT CULTURE, NATIONALITY, ETHNICITY YOU ARE. I recently received a letter from a my son's friend. He is Korean, (my son is Panamanian and Black), the young man thanked me and my son for the respectful way he was raised. He said he appreciated my son asking him about his race and culture instead of assuming. So what if someone questions your ethnicity IT IS YOUR FAULT IF YOU DON'T SHARE...IT IS NOT EXPLAINING OR JUSTIFYING IT IS EXPLAINING. IF YOU DON'T SHARE AND JUST GET UPSET THEN IT IS YOU SHARING YOUR IGNORANCE. GET OVER IT AMERICA IS A MELTING POT A LAND WITH TONS OF PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS....

hi tyra i am a army wife in white sands new mexico, i am from roswell new mexico. to get to my point i watched ur show today and it was awesome. I live with 90% white women which r my friends. well lately i just dont know what to say to them they moved here last year well all of us did. all i hear is how dirty mexicans look, how scarey they look, o i dont want them to clean my yard im scared. ok 1 they work on post so they clean our yard.. and i am just so tired of them making fun of them hello i am mexican... i dont know what to do, im to nice to say hey but i am at the point where i am about to but my husband says not to cause u dont wanna come out rude and loose a friend. but im thinking i dont care but my husband is leaving over seas so i dont know who i wanna hang out with or who can i go and cry with or laugh...pls help. Thank you, Gina Bobbitt

your show today on what race are you did show that there is a problem with every ones race no matter what race you are. I just feel that in general the show was alot of white race bashing. There are bad people in ALL races and not just in the white race. Why do you do a show on people who are proud of being white ; and if you do please do not stack the deck with the kkk and other hate groups. I'am proud to be white and I have always lived by one rule and that is "I do not care what color you are unless you want or try to hurt me' in short the golden rule also. I have friends of all colors in many other countrys. You just were unfair to white people on your show and I'am hurt to think you would do this.

I think the issue is alot deeper than what people who watch the show think it is...It has nothin to do with color.... people judge what they dont know, and ive notcied that every body want to be what there not...you feel me... ima straight up white girl from miami with blonde hair and green eyes...and i dont think im better then no body....But i love being white ...and my man is black/cuban but he looks more black....we are an anti-racial realationship and i love it...i think we look so good together...and i love seeing other relationships like ours....its good to be with someone different then you...Stop being closed minded and be PROUD of who you are.... Get Ready america anti-racial relationships are here to stay!!! :) Black n White

I watched the show Can People Guess Your Race, and found it very hurtful that you kept referring to these people as "women of color". I am what you would call a "white" girl, but believe that I also am a person of color. I certainly am not devoid of color, and just because it is lighter than others, doesn't make "white". Also, I have angel hair also, that is not just a "black" girl thing....hopefully you will consider these points when you have your next program on color and/or race.

Everyone always thinks that i'm like mexican or something. But i'm actually Brazilian. ya brazilian. you don't see that very often in hollywood do you?

hi;;; welll to start of im 100% hispanic but people tell me that i look white. Well its been a strugle. i was 9 when i got here i would only hang out with white and black people because thats the only race that they had at my school. other students would talk about me in spanish to their other hispanic friends not knwoing that i can understand what they are saying. ..... i ♥u tyra!!!!!!
