NEXT: Pregnancy Intervention

Have you pregnant smokers, drinkers, drug users never heard of birth control!??? If you are not in optimal health to begin with, you should not be getting pregnant. Reading some of these comments and watching the show makes me sick, and so angry. How selfish can someone be to only think of themselves and not the new life they are going to bring into this world! There are so many women trying to get pregnant and cannot, or do everything healthy but are not as lucky to have a healthy baby. Yes, smoking is an addition and it is not easy to quit, however the issue is that you should never get pregnant if you cannot be as healthy as possible and not put your baby in harm. As far as our generations past and commenting that they used to smoke and most of their children turned out ok - again, not the point!! We are to learn from our past mistakes. We now know through medical studies that smoking causes harm to the fetus/baby, so knowing this how can one choose to put their baby at harm by being so selfish?! This episode makes me sick to my stomach...

Tyra some of these women think that having a baby is a joke--that is a life--the lady in the purple says this is the first baby for her young man---if she cannot take care of herself while she is pregnant why will she do any better after having the baby--her other kids are sick right now but it is all about her--she does not seem to care even when the dr is speaking---I quit cold turkey with my 3rd child after smoking for over 11 years--1-2packs a day so she can if she wants to---but some people think to stop smoking she will get fat---at least you and your baby will be healthy--girl grow up---

The fetus is protected for two weeks after conception, then it is impacted by whatever the mother to be absorbs. Over seventy percent of American females consume alcohol to varying degrees. The math indicates a high probability that most of us affected by alcohol inutero. Family planning means stop drinking first. The crime here is nobody's telling these pregnant ladies about FASD.

Where the hell do you and your audience get off insulting people? I'm pregnant and trying to quit, and YES! I CHOSE to get pregnant while smoking...didi it with my son too, I didn't smoke a full pack then , and I don't now, and you know what, my son is perfectly healthy. My husband smokes as well, and I agree that having your partner smoke around you when you are trying to quit, and no, he may not have the baby inside him, but tell me something, what if the mom doesn't smoke, but dad is smoking a pack a day in the house, thats ok cause he's not the one who's pregnant? I think that that it's great that you wanna "help" people , but you're judgemental ways need to change... and let us not forget, our parents and grandparents all smoked, and drank during pregnancy, and last time I checked, the baby boomers gave birth to many many healthy babies...

hi tyra; i just finished watching your show on pregnant woman and their addictions; you know in my personal thought; when i was pregnant i did nothing to harm my 3 and a half month old son. i think woman who do that kind of thing is very cold hearted. they only think about them selves and not about that incocent little baby that they are carrying. and when you try and help people like that sometimes they take it and sometimes they dont. and you can only step in so far. i wish all the young ladies on your show the best of luck. but i do have to say something about the very last girl that was on your show today. [the one that her mother has her little girl] i really hope she gets on the right track i mean; she needs to step up and take the "motherly responsibilty" of her child. thank you for you help & all you have done. -nichole- P.S. would you please email me back. thank you.

I watch the Tyra show quite often, but today was ridiculous. An Intervention? Only qualified professionals should be in charge of an intervention. It seems that Tyra tries to be a "counselor" well in reality she is really just judging these poor women who are dealing with an addiction. First, I think if Tyra wants to try to be a counselor, get some education on it because you were just judging those women and have no idea what they are dealing with. Second, get some education on addiction, you obviously know nothing about it. This show was just a disappointment to me. Yeah, of course pregnant women shouldn't be smoking, or drinking & drugging, but learn about addiction first and then do a show on it. And when someone doesn't agree to your "intervention" you just put them down. What is this????

Ok I know I haven't been pregnant but I used to smoke (not as long as those women from the show) but I did smoked for 3 years, until I meet my boyfriend. He hated smoking and he told me "it's either me or the cigarettes". I quit. No patches, no gums, nothing, I just stopped and I haven't smoked for almost 3 years. To be honest, for me, it wasn't as difficult as everyone says it is. As long as you have someone to help you go through it, as long as you want to quit and you commit to it, and as long as you keep your mind distracted you can do it. Also avoid spending time with people that smokes. Also my sister has been smoking for almost 9 years. She is 29, and she tried to stop 2 times before but couldn't. Her excuse was that she didn't really wanted to quit, and that she will stop once she gets pregnant. I'm scared that she won't be able to do it, specially since her husband smokes too, but we will see.

Tyra, I was watching this show on pregnancy/smoking and becoming very frustrated with what people were not able to understand. Nicotine addiction is one of the most toughest addictions to treat, especially if you have nicotine dependence (not abuse, there is a big difference). It is a neuro-biological disorder that needs treatment. The same as someone who is herion dependent or alcohol dependent. For most people who's brain chemistry is now 'dependent', it is VERY difficult to just stop smoking. For some, they also may have an undiagnosed anxiety or depressive disorder that makes it impossible to go cold turkey. Instead of 'shaming' these women to only want to smoke more, they need educated on treatment. I am an addiction specialist and really feel frustrated and sorry for these women and more so the babies, because they are not being educated on what is actually wrong with them. "Writing down you feelings every time you want to smoke" is not going to cut it!!

I am watching the show as I type and I am so beside myself right now. I am a mother of 13 month old twin boys and would not have them if I still smoked. I was informed by me specialist that they will not do IVF if you smoke. I was very blessed because I was told that I could not have kids. After two cycles of IVF I have these precious angels. I smoked from the time I was 13 till December of 2006 when I was told I had to quite smoking if I wanted children. I quite the day I was told that. Then you have these people who can get pregnant with no problem and take advantage of it. They take everything for granted. We are going to do IVF again when the boys get 2 and I can proudly say that I will not have to stop again because I never started back!

I love this show and while Tyra has good intentions all the time she often judges ppl to much. These women are not terrible ppl. They have a problem and cannot help themselves. While it is possible for some women to stop addictions while they are pregnant(I'm a living example of this) sometimes is not so easy the second or third time around. It's hard for many of these ppl in the audience and Tyra to understand where theses women I do not agree with them judging these women because they have no idea what they are going through. My comments apply to this show as well as others as Tyra a the ppl in the crowd that are influenced by her often jump to conclusions, stick to them, and then, with a closed mind, judge the ppl on the stage.

I am watching your show as I type.... I am a mother of 2 and I also am a smoker. When I was pregnant with both of my sons the doctor advised me that I should not quit cold turkey that i should at least cut back. I cut back and went from full strength to ultra lights. My oldest son was 6lb 6 oz, my second was 7lb 5 oz. And both were very healthy. I do not smoke in the house with them. Another story for you is a good friend of mine just recently had a son and smoked during pregnancy her son was born healthy and was 9 lb 15oz. Imagine what the weight would have been. I am not saying that it is good to smoke while pregnant, however quiting cold turkey will hurt the baby more. they can't handle the withdrawls.

I am so upset about this show right now!! I dont think that I'll EVER be able to watch Tyra again!! Who are these people to tell that woman that she is so bad for smokeing?? That is for nobody to say!! That woman knows what she is doing and that is HER decision if she wants to smoke! That doctor talking about low birth weight is full of it. I smoked with my last baby up until I was about 6 months preggo and my son was a full term, 10 pound baby! And is perfectly healthy!! Where as I was able to quit smoking while I was pregnant with my son, but I would never judge that woman. And no one else has the place to judge her either.

omg my heart hurts so bad, these babies need help and so do the mommys. my husband has no children and i can no longer have children we have tried for over 8 years i was told i have endo. These ladies do not know how bad it is to do this to their baby, there are so many people living without children for some reason or another who i know whould just die to be having a baby and not do this stuff during pregnancy. if you have addictiond use protection if you cant stop. omg like i said my heart just hurts so bad for the baby..

WOW, Tyra Banks, a former Supermodel of all things, is lecturing people about their lifestyle on Television right now... telling people that they are doing horrible things, etc, etc... blah blah blah... this show is tripe... one step above Jerry Springer, but only because Tyra is easier to look at.

You bet your booty you quit cold turkey. I did it, it wasn't that difficult. As soon as you get that positive PG test your body is no longer yours. It's home for a developing child. If you wanted to give that child the best start possible you'd stop putting yourself and your needs first and start thinking about that child that needs you!
