Beware the five diet-deadly scenarios of the college years!

We all know about the "Freshman 15" -- it's where those 15 pounds come from that's a mystery. You might only help yourself to the lightest fare in the dining hall -- but somehow those pounds are packing on. Dr. Daphne Oz, author of "The Dorm Room Diet" tell us how to avoid packing on the pounds!

Test Mess
A lot of times cramming your brain goes hand in hand with cramming your mouth. Study food -- one of college kids' biggest source of nourishment. During the day, you might have access to perfectly great choices but at 2am crunch time -- it's vending machine city. Just be prepared -- keep quality snacks like almonds, carrots and even a handful of semi-sweet chocolate chips to munch on. Matter of fact, a combo of raisins, semi-sweet chips and almonds makes a pretty sweet and easily stashable trail mix.

Go Big Blue!
Tailgaiting is a huge part of college life -- it's also a huge part of why your diet can go south in an instant. A whole day of hot dogs, hamburgers and beers -- too much! While you don't want to bench yourself, you don't want to bulge yourself either. Instead, make sure the festivities have a healthy choice by bringing them with you. Fruit salad is always a hit -- diet or not.

Party Hardy
Your average college party isn't going to have a healthy tray of sushi -- you're lucky if you get a few pretzels for munching around the keg. To combat the crazy party pickings, make sure you eat something filling and healthy before the festivities. Also, once there keep a bottle of water in hand so if you feel the urge to snack past your full point, you can sip instead.

Gather 'Round for Gossip Girl
Watching shows with your suite-mates can be a great bonding experience -- don't sacrifice that! But definitely reconsider the mindless munching that goes along with your TV nights. Maybe plan dinner to be eaten during the show so you can plan out a healthy meal and not eat extra, needless calories.

Nighttime Noshing
The best part of living with people is having a gab buddy at any hour of the day. College can be drama and that's okay because you get by with a little help from your friends- - but you also get big thighs with a little help from your friends! If you and your roomie end up dishing until the wee hours of the morning, find something else to do to occupy you- - like playing cards -- instead of munching.

Hey Tyra - I appear to be having the opposite problem to everyone here. I started law school last September. I had exams in October, December, January, April, May and June, and even when I don't have exams, I have loads of coursework to complete every week, so I'm often beating the clock to get things done on time. I don't have a car, so I walk everywhere, and I eat only healthy food (no junk whatsoever, except alcohol, usually weekends only).I don't do any excercise other than walking because I have no spare time in which to do it.So anyway, I'm 5"11 and a half, and this morning I weighed 113 lbs.I lose weight every time I have exams (I sometimes forget to eat till I'm ready to collapse due to low blood sugars, then I have "emergency cake" and a meal!)and I struggle to put it back on. However, I'm naturally skinny, and have never ever in my life been over 125 lbs. What do you suggest I do? I don't have any health problems except when I "forget to eat" and get low blood sugars. Am I healthy? Am I just light boned? Is it okay to be just under 6ft and weigh 113 lbs?Bear in mind that lot of women in my family are skinny (one of my aunts has four children and is only a dress size more than I am).Oh, and my family doctor used to make me take calorie drinks when I had my really skinny phases as a teenager (and last summer. They were 1500 calories each and I had to take one a day). I'm 22 now.Should I attempt to get fat by eating junk (bearing in mind, I get sick every time I eat junk, because I'm not used to it).

Hi Tyra :) I went into college in Fall of 2007 not worrying about a thing. I'm in the Color Guard in the Marching Band and we do a lot of physical stuff. My second semester is when everything went down hill. There is so much food in the cafeteria...all the soft serve ice cream you want, fresh baked cookies, and 20 different things to choose from each day. I went crazy. I went into college at 120-125 and that summer when i came home I weight 150 pounds! I gained the freshmen 30. It was horrible i had never been that big and to come home where people were to used to be being skinny was really hard for me. I struggled to loose the weight for almost a year. Finally I really started to watch my diet and work out. I am now down to 133 but it just doesn't feel good enough. It's hard because I've been trying really hard and I'm worried I won't ever get down to my regular weight. But, I'm sticking in there and trying my hardest. I love your show it is inspiring on so many levels. For the young and for the old you have really brought something different and new to talk shows.

I'm going to college next month so i'm a freshman and i've started a diet already cuz college friends r the ones that stick and u my meet ur soul mate there so i don't wanna be compared to those jocks .

I actually LOST 15 pounds my freshman year at college. Why? Simple. I didn't keep any food in my dorm room. That meant anytime I wanted to get food, I had to walk somewhere and get it. If I was bored and felt like eating, I had to brave the Ohio winter to walk somewhere and get food, and let's face it, that's not something I wanted to do unless I was REALLY hungry. Second, it was all about choices. At the caf, I could have chosen to get ice cream instead of yogurt. But, by just deciding to get something that was somewhat healthy instead of something completely unhealthy, I still felt full after I ate but it was because I ate something with value. And finally, all the walking made me lose weight. Walking to classes. Walking to get food. Walking to the library. Walking to parties. I was surprised to see the weight melt off my body just because I picked up the pace and walked briskly to my classes.

Hi tyra, I am a big fan of your show. and you of course. I just finished reading the article on the freshman 15. i just finished my freshman year. before, i weighted 105 pounds. now i weight about 115. i know i am not overweight, but when i look in the mirror, i feel disgusted. i don't know what to do. while in college, i started running, and i think it helped. i just want to be how i was before and be healthy. i took a nutri sci class, and i learned that diets are not good. what should i do?

Hi Tyra I'm a different Jessica than the comment left with the girl above me.I'm a pre-teen who is almost 12 & I watch your show all the time with my mom, but I'm having some problems which I would be hopeful you can handle for me.I'm a little over weight & I really want to be slim like I use to when I was around 7 or 8 years old.Diets & exercising doesn't work for me. I really think i'm fat because I wear a size XL in t-shirts & 16 in jean, short,& pants. So i'm asking can you help me!

hi trya i rally love your show i need your help i want to lose my belly fat and love handle i really like my size but its my belly what can i do i really need your help

Hola Tyra, WHATS UP? I just wanted you to know what a fantastic job your doing. I wanted some advice on how to start a professional model profolio. I've been to many model auditions, but I have been rejected, because of my height and weight, I'm 5 foot 8, and Im 145 lbs. I don't know what to do, Im 19 yrs old and im unemployed. I had everything planned out when I graduated from High School, I was going to get a part time job to help my family, and maybe pursue a career in modeling. I've applied to numerous job opportunities, but so far, not so good. It's been two years since my Graduation, and now I'm in College pursuing a bachelor's degree in Nursing, with the help of Financial Aid. Don't get me wrong college is great, but I feel like I have no other choice, and it's my responsibillty to provide for my mother, and help my sisters. I've always wanted to become a model, but I had no way of doing it, because my mother is finally getting a divorce from my abusive father, and right now, my main priority is to get a job and remain in school.

People in college also need to realize that there are PE classes that they can cost for less than the cost of getting a gym membership. I actually lost 15 lbs. my first year in college (I'm currently working on my third semester.)

hi tyra im 12 years old and i love your show, that little kid that danced was so cute .ps. RACHEL

Hey Tyra! I recently wrapped up my freshman year at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Ga and I have fallen victim to the Freshman 15. I walked on campus fall of 2008 137lbs and walked off campus spring of 2009 151lbs. It is really hard for me to lose this extra weight, I am trying to change my diet and eating habits, I am trying jogging but it's because I work at night. I recently went swimming and felt so uncomfortable in my bathsuit and skin it sucks. How can I take charge of my 15lbs and feel better in my skin if dieting and excerise doesn't work?

Tyra, of course I love your show (as well as ANTM)! But, I just hope you REALLY get the message out on your show that women of ANY SIZE are BEAUTIFUL! Because, I have dealt with eating disorders and don't want other girls going through that. You are so inspiring to me, and I'm so glad that you give the message that every size is awesome, not just the anorexic size double zeros, and that being a size 5 makes you just as beautiful. Love you! Thank you soooo much.

Hey Tyra!! Your show is great! Today I watched the show with Daphne Oz, and she said that some one who is 5"8 SHOULD weigh 140 pounds. That wasn't fair for her to say because you cant expect every girl to just fit into a cookie cutter shape. Im 5"4 and I weigh 140 pounds. I would love to lose about 15 pounds, but that doesnt mean i dont look good right now. In fact, my man doesnt even want me to lose the weight, he thinks a woman with a booty looks hot. I really hope she didnt make too many girls feel bad about themselves with that statement. Mind you, she did have some really great tips for weight loss though. Thank you for your time.

Hey Tyra. I love your shows. I watch them everyday after school. Yes i am still in school. I am 13, and love tyra. But recently i have been noticing that your shows are becoming more for adults, and sex related. Being only 13 i am not allowed to watch these shows that you host. I dont like it, and i think you should become more child related. Because you have sooo many fans across america, and most younger then 20. Talking about sex all the time is not really a good influence. Can you make it more PG? P.S. I am not hattin. Love you tyra, Jenna
