As we saw on this show, when it comes to making your kid a star, there are tons of pitfalls to avoid. Check out this video for casting expert Beth Melsky's exclusive advice.

Hi my name is Kim and i have a 5yr old daughter and live in NYC. They say NY is the place to be but I have not idea where to go. I have people tell me all the time why don't I put her into modeling and she loves taking pictures, she also has an unusual look. I went to this one agency and they wanted money up front and i could not afford so i never went back, but I just don't know where to start and who to talk too. Can u please give me some advice on the first step. Thank you so much.

Hi Tyra, My 12 year old son wants to be an actor. I know from personal wxperience that JRP and places like that aren't going to get him in the field. However, I can not find any place out here (Tacoma/Seattle area of Washington State) that does casting calls or auditions for free like your show suggested. Everything out here wants money for one thing or another. They say it's for photos and portfolios and things of that nature. I was just wondering if you might know where I can go or who I can call to get the ball rolling for my son. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and for any information you can give me.

i'm 12 and i've been wanting to sing since forever and a day. i want it with all my heart and soul and i know its a one in a million chance and that it may never happen but i truly believe that maybe i can make it, so i'm willing to wait until i've learned wat life is really about to make that leap.

Hi Miss B. I watch your show on Friday and man I tell you it was sooooooooooo good. I went to a agency with my daughter and I was told to pay $600.00 for pictures (camp Cards) I left with the information and went home and thought about it. I called back and asked the question about paying. They responds to me "if every agency that did not get money up front, they would be bankrupt, thats crazy". I know you always don't pay anything, but sometimes you get caught up and you for get. Thank you so much. Please let me know what to do next if you can.

My daughter, Vanessa, wants to be a star, model, actress, or singer. She has liked to walk like a model since she was 4 years old. When she watches TV and she sees some kids in commercials, she asks me, "Mommy, why are those kids on TV and I'm not?" One day she was watching PBS and she got the telephone number of the local station. She asked me to call that number so that she could go and be on TV. When I called the number, they told me that they did not need any kids and she was disappointed. On November 21, I was watching your show. A woman named Beth Melsky said that real agencies, if they want your child to become a star of to become a model, are not going to ask for money. They will train them. I am very thankful because now we are not going to fall for a scam. When I saw your show on November 21, I told my daughter, Vanessa Angela, that we finally have hope. I saw tha Tyra Show talking about little kids modeling. Please, Tyra, help my daughter to become a star.

wow , My daughter comes to me all the time mom I want to be on TV and you will see me on stage and cry for me one day , I know she has talent , I believe we need to listen to our childen , I feel though that we need to know all things before starting something we know nothing about . I thank you for the info and the sites , I have been putting it off and I started to look into it, I am not really fond of this lifestyle but I see the talent , I hope my journey may be a success and at the right timing for her , thank you again

Hi Tyra, I am just interested in information on any agencies in the Tri-State preferably New York City or New Jersey. I presently reside in NJ, my daughter is 7 months old. I have been approached by people since Imani was 3 months old. I had to turn down an audition for Target's Christmas commercial and TJMaxx b/c my mom has been in and out of the hospital since August 2008. My mother comes first and I have been tending to my mother and have put my daughter's modeling on hold. The difference with me is that a lady approached me at Baby R Us and gave me her call so she emails me the places to attend and times and they are all in NYC. I am ready now to start getting my daughter into commercials and becoming a face model. I've enter her into the Baby Gap contest still waiting to hear. I wanted to know if you could give me names of agencies to go to? Another question I had for you I understand you say that we shouldn't pay anything out of pocket does that include the portfolio? Who pays for that and how do I go about obtaining one? Do I take her to a studio myself like JC Penney, Sears or Picture Me and pay for them to do pictures of my daughter or what? This is very important for me to know. Thank you so much Tyra and keep doing your thing!!!! I am so happy for your SUCCESS GIRL AND I LOVE THE FACT THAT YOU AND YOUR MOM ARE SO CLOSE. I AM THE SAME WAY WITH MY MOM WE ARE EXTREMELY CLOSE AND IMANI IS HER FIRST GRANDCHILD AND SHE TELLS EVERYONE SHE HAD TO WAIT 67 YEARS TO BECOME

If I see another post that mentions a parent who wants to make their kid a star I will scream. It is just not based in reality. And if anyone tells you they can make your kid a star, they are telling you lies and giving you false hopes. If you really want to learn what it's like to have a kid in showbusiness and how to get in to the legitimate business, check out www.bizparentz.org. And for those of you who are participating in those classes around the country where they tell you they can get your kid an agent in LA, don't waste your money!!! The cost of finding an agent should be the equivalent of a few postage stamps. About the episode...too bad they blamed the parents instead of exposing the true perpetrators, the scam businesses out there trying to convince parents that they need to spend thousands upon thousands of dollars to make their kids dreams (or the parents dreams) come true. This episode was a total train wreck out to find clueless parents who could be made to look ridiculous when instead, as the title implied, they should have shown us the sleazy tactics of the scam artists trying to dupe unsuspecting parents out of their hard earned money.

Dear Tyra, i'm 12 years old and love to watch your show. the one that I really listen to is 11/21/08 because I really really want to become an actress/singer/dancer.this Has been my dream ever seen i was 5 and i know i will NEVER change my mind. I have an audition to morrow and right now i thinking it's a scam. So if you can please help me this is one of the only things i know i am good at and i really want this so please do try if you could to help -Ashley -Marie

Just reading the comments here is sad. The majority of people here who want to get their children in the business (and are begging Tyra to help them do that) can't even write a coherent sentence! How can you expect to navigate this business when you can't even string 2 sentences together properly? May I suggest that you concentrate on getting both yourselves and your children decent educations before you start obsessing about making them "famous"? There is plenty of time for your children to pursue this later. Oh...and for those of you stating that your infants and two year olds really want to do this...please! Two year olds are more concerned about not crapping their pull-ups than they are about their potential "careers" as models/actors! If you really want to get your children into this business, then start educating yourselves on it! Start by reading the backstage boards.

I have 2 daughters ages 3 and 4 and they want to model. I'm scared to get them in the business because I know that especially with modeling they want you to be a certain size and I don't believe that. I wanted to know if you know any agancies that would tale them on and be as kid friendly as possible. If you have any tips for me on how I should handle the career that they want to pursue.
