Hi, I am watching this show & just thinking what is wrong with these girls. I am a white girl yes but I dream of having crazy hair. I think it is just beautiful. You know you should not care what other people say. You can always do your hair nicely even with gnappy hair. I just wish that everyone would love them self inside & out. Don't listen to everyone else who doesn't like it. Thank you

Dear Tyra, I relate to the other Caucasians who have emailed. "Good" or "Bad" hair is not just an issue for Black Americans. I am 61. My brother is 58. When we were growing up we had "bad" hair. My hair was very thick and wavy. No, not wavy. It was just wild. My brother's hair was nappy. Each of us tried remedies that would conform to what we were told was "good" hair. Oops, none worked. My best friend in my teens was Lithuanian. She had raindrop grey eyes, pale skin and very straight hair. Nonetheless, we went down my parents' basement. I put a damp towel on each section of her hair and ironed her hair. She was obsessed with Cher. Bryce's hair could never be straight enough. I never succumbed to this "styling". Finally, when I was in my late forties, I just said "I'm finished with this". My hair has been very short since then. It just does what it does. Ditto my younger brother. I don't get this "good" or "bad" hair stuff but I do know and have known for decades that it does exist. In the seventies, I had the misfortune to live in a community in South Carolina. I lobbied very hard to get a job in the tobacco markets(I didn't know "hoot" about tobaco but I needed a job). On lunch break, the women with whom I worked (all black) decided that they needed to braid my hair. They worked for days. At the end of this, they told me that indeed I had "bad" hair because it wouldn't stay in the braids. My hair just popped out when it felt like it. Tyra, I just can't believe this stuff is still going on. Hair is hair.Susan

Hi i am an african from Ghana and very appauled by the way this has turned to be a racial nuisance in our community. May African American's without any white ancestral traits have beautiful curlly hair that cannot be managed hence the perm. My kids and sisters kids have very long curlly hair and without a texturizer or straighter its impossible to comb thru it and make it tidy. Dont want them to have dreads either or go about with an untidy hair or cry everytime i try to comb it. and really its not as painful as u showed on tv have a professional do it. Tyra ppl dont perm their hair becos we want to look white or hate their black hair......i dont like this abt u tyra....ppl in other cultures will take it like u portrayed it and the lady abt slaves ohhhh that is too much....maybe yu all need to start wearing straws as dreeses since the whiteman made cotton dreeses....pls educate ppl on other important things....Good hair is healthy hair....clean and strong .

Dear Tyra Banks May 12, 2009 I'm a retired person, and African American Citizen who's watched nearly all your shows. I'm also by ancient heritage an African Hebrew Israelite by the heritage name of my ancestor's as Cathriel Benyisrael. I learnt when I first acquired the knowledge of my heritage, that everything God made was good, therefore in our lack of knowledge today we have been brain washed with the thought that we were ugly by European standards because we had broad noses, thick lips, dark skin, and tight curly hair, being referred to by those of our suppressor's as having nappy or kinky hair. Adopting to this negative concept imposed upon us by a knowledgeless, and Negative thinking prople mis-viewed and mis-understood our natural and Divine nature as an evolutionary fault. But we were first on earth and in civilzation. This is to say, that God didn't make a mistake. As all he made was good in his sight. But in our misunderstanding, we are confused! From Man's fall as given in the Bible as history, the negative thoughts and ideas began to set in. And we lost the knowledge of our Divine nature, and began to view life in a superficial context. As we know, beauty's only skin deep. As you've said many times, it's all smoke and mirrors... Our hair has a greater purpose, than just mere looks. It's an antenna for telepathic communication, thus the welling up of static electricity in our hair, which the chemicals destroy causing disturbing migrain headaches. Our bodies produce bioelectrical currents, for the purpose of our telepathic capabilities. It would be much more difficilt for someone to lie to us, if we were more telepathic. As, you would be automatically capable of reading thoughts prior to speech. So in other words God

I do Natural Hair & Locs in the DMV area and I try to coach people into saying "natural" or "coarse" Instead of "NAPPY"... It just sounds so Hard & Mean... When what we need to do in the meantime is learn to Luv ourselves for who we are...

This basicly has nothing to do with hair but i think tyra banks is not just black she is also white, why doesnt she ever talk about being white? she is always talking about embracing your true self and not hating part of you. Then why doesnt she embrace the White sociedy?

I'm white and have very kinky, frizzy spiral curly hair. I've had it called nappy more times than I can count! I've tried straighteners and all that. Way too much work! Men are attracted to hair they can run their fingers through. Not curly hair like mine. I would love to have straight hair, but that's not what God gave me. I have learned to love my curls and accept that my hair is not going to ever be straight and I'm going to stand out. But it's far from "good hair".

I'm white, my hair is curly, long and coarse, but its not a pretty curly its just a crazy frizzy curly. i have to oil it frequently, straighten it, de-frizz it, so on. I think its fascinating that there are such hair issues in the african american community, i always thought the hair they say is "nappy" was beautiful, so much so that i have ALWAYS wanted an afro. seriously. but im afraid to damage it anymore than i already have. I think the the problem is just a female problem in general, straight haired girls want curly hair, curly haired girls want straight hair. we are never happy with what we have,

I am writing this, because the term "nappy head"is a derogatory name used to insult black people.Black parents should cease to use that word toward their children because it teaches the child to despise themselves.

Black women aren't the only one with hair issues. I'm white, with hair that's curly, wavy. When I was a child my parents use to cut my hair short like a boys hair cut because i would cry when mom use to brush it. I received more good comments on my hair when i had it straightened. With curly hair I'm preseived as flighty, straight hair makes me feel more in control, more professional, attractive. It doesn't go back to slavery,it has to do with the way society sees all hair and the total picture of you.tell me how to style my hair.thank you for your time
