Tyra, Please read my "The Real Good" Hair poem ,it was written in 2002 as an inspiring message of how God has blessed African American sisters with really great hair. The “Real Good” Hair by Rev. Orphialasertrella Adams-Taylor c2002 When it comes to hair, ...we sisters need not complain In fact, we are the ones who should be... a little vain God blessed us with hair more versatile... than any race We can dye it, fry it, perm it... to wave in our face But when it comes to other women... trying to copy our hairdo The afro can only be worn... by me or you Our natural crinkle curls... won't limp when it rains And there's no need to wash it daily... which is a pain We don't have to use a curling iron... unless we choose to, We can sleep, sweat, swim and still... keep our do Think about it sisters... and you will find The only kinks we really have... are in our minds So let's stop looking for beauty... elsewhere When we are the ones with the... " Real Good" hair Yes, we are the ones with the... "Real Good" hair Now, when you look in the mirror,... put a smile on your face Thank God for the most flexible hair... in the human race Sisters, we are the ones with the... "Real Good" hair Yes, we are the ones with the.. " Real Good" hair!!!! Rev. tyra i dont think this effects only the black community but every one see im 14 and my hair type is wavy and get curly going back kinda like a wig every day i have to but moose or some thing cause i feel that my hair is ugly my sister is allways telling me my hair is ugly and she says its nappy im the only one in my family who was born with curly hair every one else has strait i used to straiten my hair like almost every day but i stoped because i know that it will damage my hair...i have leard to love my hair

okay tyra. i love how youre trying to raise awareness about this issue. but how can you be such a hypocrite? you always have a weave on and never show the natural beauty of your natural hair. if youre going to raise awareness start within yourself. many girls look up to you and by you not standing up for your own words just seem a little hypocritical to me.

Hey Tyra, I am writing this to confront the misconception about dreadlocks. You DO NOT have to go three months without washing your hair to have them. I have dreadlocks and I wash them EVERY WEEK, even in the beginning when I had just gotten them I washed them every week. So that woman on your show that said you have to go three months without washing your hair was just DEAD WRONG! I get sick of people talking about things they actually know nothing about like it is fact. Thank you, and I love your show!

hi Tyra,i recently watched ur show abt 'good hair',am from Nigeria and in my twenties,i was disappointed with d mothers who gave their gals a perm at such a young age,i dont belive its so difficult to maintain their hair, growing up i had to weave my hair weekly, pls my advice for mothers esp african americans is to find someone who can weave and get their gals' hair weaved(like Tyra's)weekly or forthnightly,it will save u alot of troble, thanks

. OMG -- I simply cannot believe that there are still people found on this planet who are naive enough to not know that THE so-called "WILLIE LYNCH LETTER" IS and has been repeatedly proven to have been A total and complete HOAX! .

Hi Tyra! I recently saw your show on "Good Hair". While I think this issue is one that is important to black women (as far as self estemm is concerned) I also felt that it is ashame that we still need to have the conversation in this day and age. I am a 29 year old black woman who has tried a variety of hair styles from relaxers to braids, locks, short naturals and recently a short relaxed hair style. When I was younger my mother never let me relax my hair (a press and curl every once in a while, but that's about it). She didn't want my hair to be damaged like hers had become from relaxers. Because of peer pressure from friends and influence from my southern grandmother I didn't feel comfortable with my long, thick, kinky hair. My grandmother (who is loving, and had good intentions) made a big deal out of my hair. She made me feel it wasn't pretty enough if it wasn't straight. This made me desperate for a relaxer. Finally in high school I got my wish. And of course, Mama was right, my hair became damaged. In my early twenties with new found confidence I decided to cut off most my hair and go natural. My grandmother thought I lost my mind (and seriously asked me "What's wrong with you"?)Boyfriends who always complimented me on my light skin and long hair were'nt really throwing the compliments anymore (which I was grateful for because for goodness sakes I am not my hair or the color of my skin).I had dread locks for 7 years and cut them off two years ago. For the past year I've relaxed my hair and having been wearing short styles. This time my choice to relax was a desire to

WITH THE GOOD HAIR SHOW I WOULD OF LOVED TO SEE YOU GO TO THE TRU ROOT OF THE WHOLE GOOD HAIR DELLIMA AND THAT ROOT BEING WILLIE LYNCH A INFAMOUS SLAVE OWNER WHO BELIEVEND IN THE CONCEPT KILL THE MIND KEEP THE BODY SO THAT HE COULD COMPLETELY CONTROL THEM EVEN BEYOND SLAVERY BY BRAINWASHING THEM INTO THING CERTIAN TRAITS AN FEATURES WERE BETTER THEN OTHERS LIKE LIGHT SKIN IS BETTER THEN, DARK SKINNED AN SOFTER MORE CURLY, OR STRAIGHT HAIR WAS BETTER THEN KINKY HAIR LIGHT EYES ARE BETTER THEN DARKER EYES ALL THESE THINGS WERE USED TO KEEP US SEGREGATED BEYOND SLAVERY AN TO KEEP US AT ODDS WITH EACH OTHTER SO WE COULD NEVER RISE AS A PEOPLE AND WE CARRIED HIS LEGACY ON BELIEVING IT TILL THIS DAY I SAY GOOD HAIR IS WHAT YOU BELIEVE IT IS AND IT MAY NOT BE THE TEXTURE YOU HAVE BUT JUST THE ONE YOU DESIRE MY DEFINITION OF GOOD HAIR TO ME IS HAIR THAT CAN GO FROM DAY TO NIGHT AND CURLY TO STRAIGHT THE KINDA HAIR THAT I CAN SWET OUT OR GET WET AN IT IS STILL MANAGEABLE THEN I CAN PRESS IT OUT AN GET MY SEXY ON AT NIGHT WITHOUT NEEDING ALL THIS EXTRA,EXTRA BUT HEY TYRA TELL THE SHOW ABOUT THE WILLIE LYNCH CONCEPT SO WE CAN PUT A STOP TO IT P.S. KEEP BEING HOPE FOR EVERY YOUNG GIRL WITH OUT A STRONG FEMALE ROLE MODEL THEY FIND ONE IN YOU ... AS I DO

Tyra, Tyra, Tyra I was watching your show about the hair. I was getting mad after watching the first 15mins. I had a perm for about 17yrs and now I'm all natural. Sometimes I wish I still had a perm but I'm also glad that I'm natural. I get my hair pressed once a week & love it. My hair was damaged when I was getting a perm. I got MAD AS HECK when the mom said she chemical straighten her 3year old daughter and the one that give her 8 year old extensions. I personally LOVE my Natural Hair & will never chemical straighten my hair again. I've been wearing braids or keep it in a ponytail unless I'm going out then I get it done.

I,m white, asian and spanish and was born with wicked frizzy hair I have learned to accept my hair and embrace my wild curls :)

thank you so much for talking about this subject. "Good hair and bad hair" I think its important to understand where this issue comes from in order to evolve and accept ourselves completely. Our generation can teach the older and the youger generation how to love and embrace black beauty.

As the ladies who wrote "A Hairstory" stated, this issue goes beyond "nappy" and "good" hair. It goes all the way back to slavery and what AA perceived as the one thing that would get them out of the fields into the big house and from the big house to freedom. Who has taken up this mantle since it was placed on slaves? African-Americans themselves. We are our harshest critics regarding skin color and hair texture. I don't think there is a white person out there who could call us anything worse than what we can and have called ourselves. Now we get to the good/bad hair issue. There isnt enough time on your show to delve into this for us. I will so, though, that I wished that you had allowed the authors of A Hairstory to be on your stage to elaborate further on the history of this self-hatred.

Hi Tyra I just want to comment on your show about Popular girls and not so popular. The young Ladies you had on your show I wish that I was so I could huge alot of them, especially the ones that saw were hurting, mainly the Popular ones. We all have our insecurities and we tend to hurt others to keep others from finding out about our own. Am 6'0 and I would like to call myself a Leadinglady I don't have to fit in I hold my own, especially when you are a Mother of one and trying to go back to College. Tyra I see myself in you and just keep doing what you're doing GOD BLESS!
