How to deal with a crazy ex.
It's a phenomenon we all must face at some point -- the drama of a crazy ex. Whether it be starting fights with you in the middle of a public place or late night "take me back" phone calls, there's always some funny-business that goes into a break up.
Survive the "battle of the exes" with grace using a few of these tips.
Assess the Ex
He might have driven you crazy during your relationship, (which would explain the breakup,) but it's not fair to immediately dub him the "psycho ex." If he calls you a day or two after your breakup, or texts you "happy birthday" it's not time to alert the authorities. However, if he calls incessantly and you've heard that he's still going on and on about your demise, then you can dub him the "crazy ex." Also, chances are even if he's considerably obnoxious, he's not really crazy. But keep in touch with yourself to know the signs if he's really off his rocker -- threats of any kind should lead you to your parents, friends or a counselor, maybe even the police.
Stay Together For the Kids
Inevitably, when people get together their friends and circles start to overlap. You can't expect to never see him, it's just not logical and if the two of you start making your friends feel torn -- you're headed for a civil war. Instead, be polite, resist the urge to roll your eyes and leave it at that. If he starts chatting with you and it seems innocent, indulge him there's no harm in it. But when the conversation goes south, that's when you get the heck out of there. Your friends won't appreciate childish tantrums, but they will understand real confrontation.
Sign Off
Even when you're through with someone, there's still those pangs of curiosity. And if he's still stuck on you -- it's a lot more than just being curious. Even if you still have to hang out in the same friends circle, you don't have to keep him in your cyber circle. Lose him from your Facebook, Myspace and buddy list STAT.
