It's hard enough worrying about your own cash flow, but when you take in to consideration your sweetie as well -- it's even harder. We know times are tight and it's not always easy to sort it all out, but we have some advice for you.

Which means a "shared fantasy." Even if there's no extra dough right now, it's important to talk to each other about your future fantasies. Two heads are better than one with formulating a plan to get that house, go on that European vacation or buy that new car. This way, you can both get on the same page with a savings plan and even keep each other in check when it comes to spending.
Cash-Flow Chore Chart
Both of you should have some hand in managing the money that comes in and out of the house. This way, you can both keep a realistic outlook on what is and isn't doable with your funds -- that's the fastest way for one partner to start spending more than is coming in. It's a good idea for each of you to have a few different accounts, like your own checking and savings and then shared accounts. Your personal checking is good for your day-to-day spending, while the joint one is good for bills, etc.
Last Resort Resource
It's something NO ONE wants to think about, but you have to plan for the big "what if." It's vital to have a will in place as well as a plan for your life insurance -- which becomes even more important if kids are part of your family equation. It might be difficult to think about now, but it is something no one should have to deal with should the worst happen.
