One study says so!

own_dog_lose_weight.jpgYou would never give up your beloved pooch for any reason - but now that you know she makes you thinner, you're holding on to her leash for dear life! You know how your precious pup makes you happier, but how in the world does she make you smaller?

Actually, the answers are super simple. According to the American Journal of Preventative Medicine, dog owners simply have to get up and move around. When your great dane Delilah has to go out --you do too, no ifs, ands or doggie butts. With all of the running around after even the tiniest of teacup pups, dog owners get a good, extra chunk of exercise -- whether they want it or not. So grab a leash and your pup -- or a friend's pooch as a loaner -- and hit up the park, the sidewalk or your backyard. Who said fitness isn't fun? Your pup -- and your body -- will thank you!

Of coarse owning a dog can make you thinner! So can owning a bicycle or a tredmill, you just have to think of what you are getting into. I mean, by owning a dog. Dogs are not tredmills that will sit around and collect dust if you don't want to use them. They are living creatures that need to be taken care of. This topic can surely send the wrong message to over-weight people thinking that a pet will solve their problems. If you don't have the motivation to get off the couch to work out, don't invest in a pet thinking that.... Oh if I get a cute dog, I'll walk it all the time. For the most part it just doesn't happen like that. I am about 30 pounds over-weight and I am the proud owner of three dogs. I would call myself a responcible pet owner. I have two low maintenence daschunds who do not require much excersize and I have a very hyper weimaraner. She loves to run and walk and fetch and swim. I did not get my weimaraner because I wanted to lose weight, I have always loved the breed and think they are beautiful animals. I would not want a person to think that getting a dog will solve their weight problem or get them out more. Think about the respocibility a pet is going to bring to you. If you get a puppy you have to train it, then there's the vet bills and shots, the dog food and toys, the constant cleaning of the poop, obiedence training, the list of things goes on and on.... Take some time to think about buying or adopting a dog before you actually do. Find out which breed will best suit your needs and life-style. Do

My soon to be 2 year old siberian husky is a major motivation for my 2-4 mile walk that I take each day. Yes like any human I do miss a day every now and then but I make up for it by walking a little more the next day or cutting out some calories on that missed days. It's easy to loose focus but a little motivation like a puppy prancing around like a deer when you ask her if she wants to take a walk is plenty to get me going.

Actually it makes you gain alot more wait. just like what happened to my best friend...

Hey, April, don't let what other people tell you get you down. What do they know, anyways? Them calling you names isn't doing anything but make themselves look like complete idiots. I was picked on as a kid, too, and I'd always let it get me to me. It didn't get me anything, or anywhere, but stress and more stress. After a certain point, I just stopped caring what other people thought. Know where that got me? It led me to realizing that the less I cared what others thought, the less I heard their comments. I never listen to their dumb remarks anymore, because it just brings me down. I hate being stressed, and I hate the way caring what other people say negatively about me makes me feel. Try ignoring the bad comments for awhile . . . see if it helps. It'll be difficult to do, but . . . it'll help you out a lot in the end. If it doesn't help you out, then I deeply apologize for asking you to do so. I hope it works out for you; I truly do. I hope that I've helped you out a little. dannie
