What you're doing wrong and how to come clean the right way.
Soap and water and you're done, right? Not exactly. There is actually a right way to wash your face for wonderful, squeaky-clean skin. And then there's the wrong way, which might actually encourage breakouts! Follow a few of these simple rules and your skin will be ready to face the world fabulously.
Easy Does It
Though you may want to wipe every speck of dirt off the second it hits your face, scrubbing up a storm isn't necessarily a good thing. There is actually a layer of oils that help keep your skin moisturized and protected from harsh elements. If you have very dry skin, try to stick to washing only once a day, while oilier skin can probably stand two scrub sessions each day.
Warm It Up
It may seem like the obvious answer to blast your face with hot water as steamy as you can stand it. However, hot water will dry out your skin faster. You want to use warm water, not hot. In fact, when you're in the shower, you should even lower the water temperature as you scrub your face.
High and Dry
When you're done with your face-washing ritual, don't reach for the nearest towel and wipe vigorously. Drying this way will irritate your freshly scrubbed skin. Pat your face dry and apply your moisturizer when your skin is still ever-so-slightly damp -- this will make the most of your moisturizer's effect.
