How to get the gifts you want (and need!) without seeming like a green-eyed monster.

newiwant.jpgAs a soon-to-be bride, you get to flash the bling, choose dresses for your nearest and dearest to wear and get a whole bunch of swag for doing it. Registries are a handy thing -- especially when wacky Aunt Murial asks what to get you -- but make sure to follow a few general rules before you get to picking. You want to be a blushing bride because you're happy -- not because you're embarrassed by your green-eyed gluttony!

Don't: Register for over-the-top items. Yes, you want that flat screen TV, but maybe use some cash you might receive to nab that TV the size of your first apartment. Marriage is a grown-up step -- not Christmas morning!
Do: Pick fun items that really represent you as a couple. If you guys are famous for your fiestas, you absolutely can put a margarita set and a quesadilla maker on your registry.

Don't:
Include info about your registry in your wedding invitations. It has been done before but it looks rather tacky.
Do: Have your mom and bridesmaids pass on the information. It is okay if they include your information in the bridal shower invites.

Don't: Continuously add or take away from your registry. It just looks like you log in some serious hours scrutinizing your potential haul.
Do: Set up your registry and then have your maid of honor change your password on you. That way, she can help you decide if you absolutely need to add to it again if something goes out of stock.

NEXT: Would you date a friends ex-boyfriend if the chemistry was there?
