Got a pesky pooch with an attitude problem?
Not all pooch owners are lucky enough to score a visit from Cesar Milan. So what do you do when your beloved pet is acting out? Whisper to rover all by yourself!
Pencil in Your Pup
Creating a steady routine for feedings and exercising will show your fluffy friend that you expect him or her to follow a pattern.
Save the Kisses for Later
As much as you want to take your precious little pooch into your arms and snuggle it mightily, doing nothing but that will send mixed messages. Use your affection as a reward: Once they've exercised and eaten, then it's time to play.
You Are the Alpha
Your dog can read your mood better than any ol' psychic. You are your pet's role model, so remember to carry yourself with strength and confidence. If you keep calm, Fido will, too.
Make the Rules
It's not only important to set rules, but also to enforce them the right way. Don't scream or hit your dog to enforce rules -- this goes back to keeping your cool. The dog knows that you have, albeit momentarily, lost control and will act up. Instead, maintain your composure and give it an assertive tap or a tug on its leash. Because after all, you're the boss. And your furry friend will respond to that -- hopefully by keeping your fave pair of stilettos out of his mouth.
