hookinguppic.jpg Parents may think hooking up is hanging out, but we know better. It's definitely girl on boy contact. But what is it really? Does hooking-up mean sex or just a really great make-out session? Tell us how you define hooking-up. And explain why ladies are so vague?

i agree w/ patrick.

i think hooking up is just girl on guy actual physical contact. like on top of eachother making out, etc. it doesnt have to, and when teens say it, it usually doenst mean, having sex.

I'm note really sure what the definition of hooking-up is. I use to think that hooking-up was sex. But then I heard it being used loosely on a certain teen reality show so now i'm not sure what it means anymore.

Im Lucy and im 13,
ever scince i can remember hooking up was just making out, but i think that as you get older the meaning changes. but in saying that iv never herd someone said that they hooked up when they where talking about having sex or going further.
but thats just my experiences.

i was told that hooking up was anything more than making out&less than having sex? :s

I totally agree with what Patrick said. :)

I think hooking-up just means that you're going out with someone but the thing isn't serious at all

hey tyra i think that was kinda rude of u to say that to that ;ady. u no nothing about their lives. but i think no matter wat anyone says, that hooking up is when u decide that u wanna go out with some1 regardless of whether it is by having sex or by talking or a crush or a handshake!

I believe that "hooking up" is def. at least making out. It can lead to other things maybe 3rd base or sex, yes. Then the next time they see that person they act as if nothing ever happened and get on with their lives. For others it can start out as a hookup, but then you grow to like the person and it can be more, but usually that isn't the case. That's my opinion.

Tyra, you TOTALLY dropped the ball on this show. How can you say to the mother of the 14 year old that her daughter wouldn't come to her if she decided to have sex? When did YOU or that male "advisor" on the show carry a child for 9 months? The way she raises her daughter isn't a "society decision" but her own personal one that is in the eyes of GOD.

Shame on you Tyra, you owe that lady and her daughter a heart felt apology.

I understand your opinion on the modern way of doing things. However, giving young people condoms only encourages sex. Giving young people the truth about sex and then being realistic and knowing that many young people today are open about sex which gives impetus to having more sex among young people is important to know.
However, it is a parents role to expect the best for their child. Accepting sex from your young person is like wishing for them to contract a disease. For every partner they have sex with, you can multiply that number by 4-12 other partners that they have come into contact with. Your child isn't just having sex with one person they are having sex with the 4-12 others that that person also had sex with mutliplied again by 4-12 for each person they had sex with. Is that what you want for your child?
The issue is NOT EVERYONE IS DOING IT! Are more young people today doing it? Yes, it is more prevalent today because society is turning it's back on Christian morals. The point is, it is adults responsibility to tell young people all the reasons for sex. If you are Christian that means you wait until you are married and have sex which is blessed by God. There is a reason it is a sin to have pre-marital/out of weldlock sex, it is because there are bad consequences that happen when we don't follow God's plan for sex and marriage.
Saying he/she is going to do it anyway and then give them condoms is condoning immature and irresponsible behavior which in todays world could very well kill them.
What is the problem with teaching self-respect and self-control?
Oh, I know all you deadbeat, quitters, it is because it is easier and then you won't have to battle your child on this issue. Give a child a condom and drop YOUR responsibilities. You gutless wonders. Maybe if more parents actually worked 24 hours a day like you are supposed to as a parent then we wouldn't have so many teenage pregnancies and teenage STD's.
Don't respond with a judgemental response. Look in the mirror first and then judge my comments.

Shelby's situation reminds me of myself with a misconception of casual sex being used as a means of comfort. It was acceptable behavior to me in my 20's -- one night stands, consensual, dangerous behavior. In my teens I believed this was what "dating" meant. In my 40's I learned it was also called "date rape". By then I had gotten over blaming men. It took me longer to face up to the fact that I was being bitter toward men and not respecting myself enough to form potential relationships. I disagree that what Shelby does is prostitution. She's practicing date rape -- maybe not seeing herself as a potential victim, but also playing the roll of a potential offender by cheating herself. I wouldn't want my daughter to be as "spontaneous" and negligent as I was. Nor would I want my grandson to date someone who had such poor boundaries, and such a small regard for respect of a friend.

I am 18 years old and I still do not have an open relationship with my mom when it comes to sex or anything along the lines of that. We talk about everything else together, but sex is not one of them. Whenever she talks about someone else and sex she gets mad which makes me feel uncomfortable if I ever brought up that subject with her.

Hi ,
Im a junior in highschool and when someone says "oh i hooked up!" the first thing that pops into our heads is she got some. Hooking up can go from just making out to hands and mouths comeing into act to even having sex.Hooking up does not mean the two are an item. When they see eachother the next day at school they go around like nothing happened. Thats what hooking up means at my school.

hi im Savannah. im 13 and "hooking up" could be alot of things it could just be a really passionate make out or it could be having sex but it could also just me like oral or somthing i think its different everywhere and with everyone and i definetly think it changes as you get older like when your 24 going out to clubs and stuff you would never tell your freinds you hooked up with some guy if you only made out.

i'm a freshman in high school and if someone says hooking up, the word that everybody thinks of is sex. i have made a promise to god that i won't have sex til i am married.I thinkk that girls should really consider the consequences before they have sex.

Listen. I think Tyra was correct for what she said to the 14 year old's mother. I talked to my mom and have an open relationship with her. She always told me I could come to her when I'm ready to have sex, how awkward would that be, no matter how close you are. When it comes down to it, when the feeligs and heat are there between two people the last thing on your mind s ur mother's expectatons. Ithink instead of yelling about it you should respect your child's decision and ask her if she's ok because we all know, even if u don't regret it and ur reatioship is stronger afterwards, its still emotional. Just make sure u respct her decision and don't treat her wrongfully because if u show her compassion he'll be more likely to be open with you in the future and you can make sure she's doin it safely...so thumbs up tyra!

TYRA,
I THINK THAT HOOKING UP IS MOST DEFINATLY JUST A MAKE OUT SESSION. MAYBE IT COULD LEAD TO SEX. BUT EVERYONES DEFINITION IS DIFFERENT .
ITS CALLED LINGO HUN. :)
BY THE WAY YOUR GREAT :)

hm....2 me, hooking up is just gettin together, having a fun or somewhat like a date....that may lead to making out [yay] or further maybe [??] but um....yea just going out 2 me.♥

hey Tyra.
I'm in seventh grade and "hooking up" can mean anything to having sex or just hanging out with no physical contact. That is either with girlfriends or males.
