Hey Tyra, I just watched your show on the issues of dark and light skinned people. We live in a hypocritical world where we keep saying that beauty is not skin deep but not sure how much we believe it. I am Indian and have wheatish complex. Despite that when i got married someone said "she is not that fair though" as if it is a huge criteria to determine a beautiful girl. People live in the illusion that fair is beautiful. It is not the colour that is beautiful but the person that makes himself/herself beautiful. Light Eyes and Light Skin cannot underline beauty. It takes an even toned skin and good features to be photo pretty but if you have a heart of gold you are already super beautiful everything else is superficial. We need to remember that wrinkles are not biased towards light and dark skin. Sara

Its alright people saying to dark skinned women that they should feel proud about the way they look ( which is a highly commendable attitude). But the fact is, in the real world they are constantly been potrayed in a negative light by both the black and white American media, as all roles for attractive black females are given to those who are light skinned or almost European looking whilst roles for unattractive or obese black females are usually played by dark skin women with typical black features. Its time black people stood up and started protesting against it, and let them know we will no longer stand for it, if we don't, its like we don't care enough and those who use this negative practice will assume that. Theres one thing I don't get, in the carribean and parts of latin America they had a caste system based on ones skin tone and race thats why people in those countries favour light skin people, but in the U.S. you had a one drop rule whereby if you had a tiny drop of black in you and you looked more white than black, you were still classed as fully black, so how did that make black people in America favour light skin people in the way they do.

Of course darker skin is not less beautiful. All skin hues are beautiful because it's the color God gave you. People should be proud of who they are and stop trying to live up to other people's standards. If you are dark skinned you are no uglier than a light skinned woman. I am light skinned and I have a lot of dark skinned friends. They are all beautiful. Some of my friends make comments about people like "yeah they're pretty but they're dark skinned" as if being dark is bad. It's not bad at all. I think it's wonderful. I love this song quote "The darker the skin, the deeper the roots" from Tupac. It's very true. So dark-skinned women, whenever you are feeling down just remember that quote!

Hi Miss Banks, I've heard you getting alot of comments from darker-skinned people. My sister and I were born by two different fathers. She is dark skinned, and I'm that two shades above caramel color. Dark Skinned people, love you. I swear, being light isn't all that lovely. People ask you if your half white sometimes, if you have a heratige, and if your like me(tall, developing at ten, and big lips that I haven't grown into) It's hard not being that pretty dark color like the other black girls. I like my skin, and I think your skin makes you look authentic. Sometimes I look latina, or somewhere deep in the Bahamas, and I hate it. I'm not BLACK I'm LIGHT-SKINNED.That's what people think. There is no 'Light skin' there is no 'dark skin' there is only BLACK PEOPLE.

Hi Tyra. I'm a 20 year old black female. I like that you do shows on many different topics, but there is one topic I think should be covered that really isn't talked about much. Racism. I went on youtube just looking up things and came across something that said I HATE BLACK PEOPLE. i watched it and people are so hateful. a lot of people really don't like us. I left a comment and I got hate mail from one person. He/She really doesn't like black people. They think that we are all bad people. Murders, education, rapings, robberies, drug dealers, etc are some of the things that this person touched on. They think that's all we do and that's all we're worth. Even after I tried to explain to them that black people are starting to do a lot in this country and making a big impact I was told that I should shine their shoes and wash their underwear. I didn't know that racism was that bad in this country still. I also want to say thank you for all that you have covered on your show. It's good to see black people doing positive things.

Hey tyra dis ya girl meme.I am dark skin and proud of it i dont hate on light skin girls. i mean what for black is what in..I get noticed everwhere i go because i'm dark skin. thats a good thing that mean all eyes on me...

Hi Tyra, I saw your show about light and dark skin tones in the black community. I wish you had more light skinned girls on your show because I think it is important that dark skinned woman who feel inferior know that everyone wants what they cant have. I am black, mexican, and Italian and proud of it but I don't have any dark skinned friend. This is not because I don't want them but because I don't fit in. I go to a church that has a majority of black people. When I walk in the girls my age gave my dirty looks and wouldn't talk to me. People assume that I'm stuck up. People say that I'm white washed because I have a white boyfriend and listen to rock music. I don't believe that anyone should have to act a certain way or be stereo typed because of their appearance. Thats why I'm happy you had the light vs. dark skin show.

Hi Tyra! OMG, I can't believe I'm writing to you! I super respect you Tyra! I look up to you 'cause you are proud to be who you are and you teach others to be proud of themselves to! anyway, I am 20 years old, a Filipina, with dark skin, yeah.. Not very dark though but dark (kinda morena).. What's always made me insecure is that people (teen usually) made fun of people with darker skin.. I mean, they love the tan, alright, but when it goes darker than that, they'll be looking you're way when you walk up in the streets, whispering how you look weird! Just f****n hate it when people make fun of people who are different.. I just can't understand what exactly is wrong with the 'cause WE are not a white-society.. But still, people in here are so crazy about 'whitening products' (even if they're skintone is already white!) I just don't get it.. And since I was in highschool, I get insecure because everytime I wear something that shows a little skin, they'll be like "oh, she thinks she's all that! How dare her show-off like that, she's not 'light-skinned' anyway." Urrrggghhh! I don't have anything against them because they are different from me, I just don't think it's OK to discriminate people because they are different.. light/dark skinned, skinny/fat, gay/straight, we are all people and we are beautiful, WHATEVER kind of 'skin' we are in! Huh.. That's good, letting all these people know how I always felt.. I just love the Tyra Show 'cause you guys make other people realize that being different doesn't make you less of a human you already are.. And you kinda teach people a lot of things they should understand.. Shoutout to all! WE ARE BEAUTIFUL!

Hi Tyra, I am a dark-skinned, beautiful woman and I am proud of my features. I am not ashamed, nor than I feel inferior to my light-skinned companions. I understand that there is a problem in our society where people with darker complexions feel insecure and view themselves as less than what they are. This truly breaks my heart, but I am thankful that my parent instilled in me the ability to see myself as beautiful.

Hey TYRA! I'm an African American girl living in southern Cali, and what some people may not know is that dark skin girls where I'm from get treated so badly. I always am unsure about myself when I meet people especially men. I feel as though men look at darker skinned women as just "friends" or "cuddie buddies" rather than a person they can have a relationship with. So, I do feel pressure everyday to think twice about myself because of how dark my skin is. But as I'm getting older I have been starting to realize that the problem is with me it's with people who judge me because of how dark my skin is.

Hi, Tyra I am a big fan of yours since forever, I am 17 years old and I am dark skinned I dont like that I am darked skinned I wish i was light skinned because everyone thinks that they are so pretty. Being light skinned I think would boost my confidence. Light skinned people are what attracts people to look but being dark skinned no one really notices u barely. And if u are dark skinned people will remember u in a bad way and not a good way. But u learn to live with it everyday

Hey tyra i am a hispanic women and i love my skin i am dark skin also and i think that the color of your skin shouldnt matter you can do anything you put your mind on it i have dark hair and i have gone to hair dressers that tell me that because of my skin i should have dark hair but i want lighter hair and i have seen you on the show you have lighter hair and it looks good tyra you skin color doesnt matter we can make anything look good thanks tyra for your kind words

I am a proud latin woman at the age of 60. The problem of skin color is every where. There are problems in Mexico my home country, where white skin is Tops. Here in the states, Afrcan people treat there own people very bad. Your show donot not help. You yourself have not acceped who you are, You wear so many wigs!!! If you are a white and marry a Black person and have a Child, that child is treated Black. That is SAD. This country is a sad place,Your show and you are part of the problem. Wear Your own Hair. The NAppy Hair you have. Stop trying to be White. Anaperla.
