Hey Tyra! Well many people may say that skin color doesn't matter or count but it truly does. I am a 16 year old dark-skinned girl and I agree with some of the comments above. Some people really believe that the lighter your skin color is the better. I mean if you listen to some of the rap songs all you hear is red bone this and red bone that. For those who don't know what a red bone is, it is a light skin female. I don't have a problem with anyone's skin color or race but I am getting tired of feeling like they are better than me. I barely see many dark skinned girls in music videos and in real life we are getting treated differently. Many boys my age would rather have a light-skinned female than a dark-skinned female. They may not say it but their actions show it. I genuinely believe that this issue should be discussed and addressed further.

Hi Im 21years old black women from South Africa.Ive always attendend the so called "white private schools" ever since i was in a nursery school.Im dark in complexion and very beautiful but people always say to me.."you so beautiful but why did you have to be dark in complexion????""Thats really hurts coz ive always been told the same thing since i was a little girl til this day.At some point,my first love broke up with me coz he couldnt take the pressure from people who kept laughing at him for going out with a dark skinned girl like me.Maybe ive also been brain-washed as i sometimes feel that light skin is more superior. This topic is quite emotional for me since it reminded me of my childhood. But above all i think...a person complexion shouldn't matter above...a persons character. So dont descriminate-coz sometimes words hurts more than a poisonus arrow and trust me im still recovering from my High School trauma of always being teased about my complexion

we have ugly lights and ugly darks. pretty darks and pretty lights. the skin color doesnt count!

Hi Tyra, I'm sixteen years old. I'm a international student, just have been in here for seven months. I know my English skills is not good, just let you know my opinion...to me, i don't want people, especially black people to think i discriminate them, but honestly i think people who has dark skin is less beautiful than other. If my opinion may hurt people who has dark skin, just forgive me please. Steven

Dark Skin is BEAUTIFUL!!! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise! -and that's coming from a light skinned woman!!!

Well coming from a dark skinned personal like myself I feel that we are no less beautiful then any other skin color so why should be treated different. Others that think different are just ignorant how can you judge someone off of something such as skin color in which they have no control over. In America and other cultures there is an issue of skin color it was brought to my attention when I would get compliments such as "you are a cute dark skinned girl" what kind of comment is that. Are we supposed to be viewed as ugly. The whole concept is just dumb.

I wonder why Native American people aren't on theses race issue show... could it that they do not like to be on Talk shows or does the Talkshow Hosts producers not look for them? That is a question your show should look into.

Honestly I think that even though many people may say that darker skinned individuals do not face a whole other discrimination that in fact it is true. I am a 15 year old African American girl who is considered in the halfway point. I am not light skinned but I am not quite dark-skinned, even though I still am called light-skinned to my family. Growing up I was the light one in the family...but due to being out in the sun I became darker. And I also have hazel eyes which come from my father's side of the family that is part Indian and black. So I would notice that when my family would go out to stores my equally as beautiful, but darker skinned sister would not get as much as compliments as I would. And it would upset me because I have had problems with self-esteem and I did not want my sister to feel as though she was less than me in any way because she was not. But I have also noticed that even though I am not considered dark skinned I still feel as though women of mixed races or races that are predominately lighter skinned receive much more attention from men then people like me do. And it is upsetting because just because they have what we call "good hair" or because they are "lite-brights" as they say, that doesnt mean anything. And I am not knocking those women but I am saying that this needs to change. Because women are losing self-esteem and confidence rapidly due to this. It seems like where I live and where I attend school is that the guys want to only talk to brown-skinned and darker girls for dumb reasons: because they have a nice body and they

Hey Tyra! My name is Alex. I am 13 years old... I think that darker skin is no less beautiful than light skin. I, myself, am dark skinned and I am proud to be who I am. I must say that many boys at school and friends of mine consider dark skin to not be a beautiful, but I disagree. It is all in the way you carry yourself and take care of your body. If you are beautiful to yourelf, then it shouldn't matter what others think. I was recently called and ugly girl with acne problems and I didnn't take hat offessively. I looked at myself in the mirror and told myself I was beautiful and named all the good features of my body. For example, look at Alec. She is absolutely stunning and she is darker than I am! She is a vry successful model an I see why. Another example, Naomi Campbell! She is gogeous, too! All women are beautiful to me and no one is more beautiful than the other because we were all created equally in the eyes of God.

Yes lightskin is better

hi my name is malorie and i am seventeen years old. i think you are an amazing woman and you are hilarious! i always enjoy watching your show but ive noticed the few episodes that have to do with racial issues such as names, interacial relationships, and the steroetypes of light skinned verses dark skinned; your coments on these issues are more harsh toward the black pannel of your dicussion. The audience seems to be offended yet the pannel guest is simply stating their own opinion of their experiences. (ex.)the episode that aired on 7/28/08 a white man was speaking down toward the african race just as the black man on the show was but for some reason the audience and yourself had said harsh words toward the black man for simply stating his view of a woman he thinks is more attractive. i dont understand why he had these things said to him just because he didnt perfer his race over others. another example is that when the light skinned african woman said how she felt growing up with darker skinned woman saying things to her and being jealous of her, a woman in the audience compared her to haley berry. okay why would you even compare? haley berry is probably one of the top ten woman in the world! that is just stupid of that lady in the audience. i dont want to drag on the subject but that is just how i felt. you do a great job and i love your show. keep doing what you do just take what i said into connsideration.
