i love tyra banks but i would have to disagree with her this time. when the girl said that her eyelids were getting saggy it could've been true cus when u have single eyelids, it's possible for it to get smaller cus there's no crease to hold it up or w/e. it's not rilly something other races can fully understand when they naturally have the crease. not only that, i kinda was bothered that she kept interupting the girl when she was trying to explain herself. i mean i understand that she wanted to give examples from her life to show her side, but i felt she should let the girl explain more to try to get her to understand a bit more. And not only that, she doesn't have single eyelids so she can't rilly understand whatt she's talking about, which is why she should have let the girl continue to talk. sorry tyra =( but it's sorta true =( single eyelid thing isn't bad at all, but some asians just feel that when they have a crease, it makes them look prettier, or makes the eyes look bigger & plus makes it SO MUCH EASIER TO PUT MAKE UP ON!! i know how the girl feels cus i have single eye lids too and i use the glue sometimes. i'm trying to accept myself more and more with what i was born with, but it never hurts to use it from time to time, especially when i want to use make up with it. sorry for disagreeing with you tyra. =( i still love you and your show though!!! just considering it as commentary from a fan =)

I don't know what happened to the clip, but I want to respond to the 'Asians getting eyelids surgery done to look more white'. Honestly, this part made me mad. I am appalled and shock. This message makes the Asian race look degrading. I AM NOT RACIST, but I will stand up for the right reasons. Not all Asians get eyelids surgery to look more white. I think that you guys should have stated on behalf of the Asian race only, or if so, like 1/4. I have eyelids enough for ME, and I know for a fact that I am not trying to pursue the 'white look'. You should have stated all the reasons why people even get eyelids surgery done in the first place, plus a few people's opinions doesn't conclude or state any real facts if there are no polls or random facts from millions of people. This is why rumors start about other races, and racism are still happening.

hi tyra i lovvve bowwow so much

I don't know where the eyelid surgery page disappeared to, so I'll comment here about race. I'm Asian. I don't care for talk shows, including Tyra's show, but she really tackled the root of the problem. Asian eyelid surgery has increased because media images of white people remind the world that whites are in power. It's a symptom of a colonial mentality, and now, colonialism isn't even necessary for a white imperialistic government or business to exert influence over poor third-world, non-white societies. Poor non-white people simply have to look at posters, movies, and toys, and white images are universal and everywhere. Whites have not only enslaved blacks but also Asians, Native Americans, and other indigenous people of South America, Australia, Iceland, etc. The reign of whites is still firm politically, economically, and socially. Some non-white people generally covet white status. After all, people usually pursue power, and power looks WHITE. Some alter physical appearances and/or marry white. Darker individuals are relegated to menial jobs; lighter people have higher positions (common in South America and everywhere else). This backdrop is critical to understanding the standard of beauty and normalcy. The Asian guest on the show yearned to be white, colored her hair brown, curled her hair, and had a white boyfriend. She didn't want to alter her features to resemble a black woman; she wanted to imitate, as closely as possible, the white beauty standard. The eyelid surgery, as indicated by Tyra, does not make an Asian white, but "it's one step closer to" achieving whiteness. While Asians may feel that their straight hair resembles white hair in a hope to identify with the white power structure, in no way do whites regard Asians as bearing any similarities to the white race. The U.S. Census Bureau, encyclopedias, and other official

It's presumptuous to say that Asians get eyelid surgery to look more white. There are a variety of reasons for eyelid surgeries. Also, I noticed that while the doctor was speaking, Tyra cut him off when he was about to point out other reasons Asians wanted to get the eyelid surgery done aside from the European look being popular in Asia. It's misleading to sway your guests to say what you want them to say. By doing so, you aren't allowing the viewers to see the entire truth. I know that a lot of people in Japan get the eyelid surgery not to look more European but to look more like Japanese animation characters. This trend has also spread to various other Asian countries like South Korea and China. Some Asian women choose to get the double eyelid surgery to improve the look of makeup, not necessarily because it makes them look white. Double eyelids give eyes a more dramatic look, especially when using eyeshadow. I'm sure there are other options to pull off this dramatic look, but maybe some prefer to get the surgery to make things easier for them in the long run. This idea that people want to look white is ridiculous. It's those sorts of ideas that feed racism and empowers white supremacists. Who we are is a choice. If you do not feel comfortable with you who are, then you need to reevaluate your decisions rather than point fingers at people, the media or things. Being white is not an ideal -- at least not for everyone.

I think is great that Pencil does what they can 2 help students in NYC... but am i wrong 4 thinking it isnt enouh? i mean, i live in the Detroit area... i think tht the kids in schools aroud here could use the help 2... these kids are so influenced by drugs, sex, and money that its not even funny... ive seen girls around no older than 15 with the pregnant pudge walking around downtown... i cant even believe what boys say 2 pesuade girls... if a boy tells u he loves you and brings up sex in the same conversation... thats not love... im jus saying... i wish that prgrams like that were present all arund... because we sure could use it in these parts

Hello Tyra, I saw your show about the teen girls being bully at a brooklyn high school. My heart goes out to all of the students that suffered abuse of some kind. I have a 11 year old daughter that was bully at school by girls that claim to be her friend. Thank God i step in and took care of it. I just want you to know that you are a wounderful person and that i am very proud of you and all the special things you do to help alot of people. Keep up the good work and God will always bless you and your family. thank you Rosa

dear tyra, i just saw your show, and i am sooo glad you did this show. im 15, over weight, stressed out, and almost completely blind. i love your shows because it's these kinds of problems that your not afraid to talk about. this show in particular hit home because of the girl who sat by herself with the bad vision, and the girls with weight problems. ever since i was 7 my life hasn't been normal. my mom got really sick and was in the hospital for 4 mounths. she was diagnosed with endocaditis and later lupis. during which time my dad, after quiting for 5 years, started smoking again. he hasnt been able to quit again. with mom in the hospital i had to do the cleaning and cooking for my brothers and my dad. i also kind of took over as my brothers mom too. we didnt know if she was going to make it through or not. but the doctors found out the cause before that happened. thankfully my brothers dont remeber her so sick. but right after that my cat got sick. and i dont think i could have made it through that time if it werent for my cat. he died the night before the first day of school. at school i had always been left out. the kids didnt know how to deal with me. they knew something was different, which is why they avoided me. i have no vision in my right eye and only 20/200 in my left. meaning, if it isnt right in front of my i cant see it. so i would always get speacial attention. so at school i had no close friends or people to talk to, but i broke down in one of my classes and

Hello, Tyra. I saw the episode where you went to that Brooklyn school, and it really got to me. Like those girls you talked to, I'm the oddball--even more so that I'm in NJROTC. Usually, the NJROTC Cadets are the school oddballs, so we're always picked on. Some more than others. However, being honest I believe that the smaller the school, the more concentrated the bullying and jerks are. The reason I say this is I think it could really help if people saw what went on in some of the smaller schools, especially to the oddballs.

Tyra, i admire you for the thing that you do! when someone has a low self esteem you try your best to bring their self esteem up. i love your show they are my inspiration! To tell you the truth your show has taught me a lot. Especially in episodes that talk about over weight people. i have low self-esteem because of my weight! i think that I'm ugly and i hate to look at my self in the mirror, its very disturbing! And when my science teacher talks about health i feel awkward. (oh, and im 14,in middle school) i want to feel good about my self but i can't. when people call me a fat--- it makes me want to tell them what wrong being fat were still human! what the difference? just like African American and white American their still human. why be a racist for, love them for who they are not for the color! well tyra i just love you and your show!!!!!!

I watched this show and it rele hit home.I cried during every single part of it.I am over weight and always have been.People have always made fun of me but for me im lucky because i have a couple close friends and they wood never talk about me like that. The girl with that disease thing that made me sick to my stomach how she walks through school everyday hoping no one takes her wig off.Thats wrong that she doesnt even feel safe in her own school.I have a bald spot on the back of my head and its pretty big.I always think that whoever sits behind in class can see it so i try to cover it but its hard. i love u and ur shows. you are my hero and i hope to be like u some day!

Hey Tyra, How about i seen your "back to school" show and it was just the greatest thing ever! I'm a 16 yr old senior and i see student all over my school that have to go though lots of tough times but they still walk around with a smile on there face. I dont have a perfect life but i know that there are lots of ppl out there that have worse problems than i do. One day my dream is to help out those ppl that need the help, just like you help out those in need! well i just wanted to let you know that i was amazed by that show =]... Love, Griselda... p.s. i watch The Tyra Show mostly every day

Tyra, Thank you sooooo much for giving the young lady on your show glasses and a laptop. And thank you for getting her a job after school with someone who would understand her situation. My heart really went out to her. In my area, your show comes on at the same time as Oprah but I much prefer watching you than her. Quite often, she has people on her show who have problems but she doesn't show that she does anything to help them. I know about her Angel Network but how can you not help someone who's sitting right in front of you when you can easily do so. Even Dr Phil offers help to those on his show. Again, thank you!!
