I agree that a child should have a father and a mother. But i also believe that there is a reason for everything. For those who believe, God has a purpose in all that he does. Whether it be a single mother or a single father. Sometimes having only one parent is better than two. For whatever reason a child has one parent does not matter. What matters is that that child has someone who loves them no matter the circumstances. I have two children. My oldest childs dad is not in her life, But that does not stop me from doing what I need to do to take care of her. I believe that I had this child for a reason. Reasons that so many people may not understand. But honestly it is not for them to understand. I am taking care of my children the best I know how. They are not missing love from anywhere. I was raised And I know I am blessed to have had my mother. I honestly do not feel like there is anything that my father could have taught me that my mother didn't. I honestly feel that the best thing any parent can do for there child is love them and be truthful to them.

hi Tyra am a Kenyan and watch your show like daily and gosh you are good thanks for being an encouragement to people like me

Hi Tyra! I totally enjoyed the show which aired on 6/20/08 "selfish single mothers" segment. Sometimes, "single mothers" do not have a choice, especially when the "donor" forces her into motherhood. They start out as friends, date & she looses her virginity after a "struggle. He says to the young mother to be, once he finds out that she is pregnant, tells her to "abort the unborn child" or tells her if she pursues him for child support before the judge that "he doesn't know if the child is his"..."for all I know, may have slept with my friends". So, the young mother-to-be keeps everything silent(not telling anyone including her mother). She does this to try & avoid ridicule. Without her strong family support, I don't think that she or her baby boy would have survive on her own. (Her mother & father). She worked, went to school made many sacrifices for her son. He went on to the Military, graduated from college & is somewhere in California working in the media. Mother has obtained her Bachelors degree. She has a "dream" of being a "model" but has been rejected because of age & height". She also wants to meet you, Miss Tyra. That mother would be me!

Tyra, I watch your show all the time but frankly I'm getting a bit tired of the poor poor black women stories. to be honest i am white and I am married to a black man. The only black man I have ever been with. We just happened to fall in love and I have been through a whole lot of DRAMA to be with him, from whites and blacks!! Why can't this country get over it?? We are all human, children of god and WHO CARES WHAT COLOR or race we are. Find someone you love and be happy. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. There are plenty of men out there even black men, ladies. Me taking one, is not hurting you. When will we see a show about how racist, black women are and how white women feel when we have to deal with black women treating us in a way that would NEVER be tolerated if the roles were reversed?? Do I have a right to marry who I want?? Can my children be treated with respect by the black community? If racism is going to go away it must be both sides LADIES!!!! Love your show but it hurts to hear the racism so clearly at least once a week. You never say anything in defense of the white women. God Bless.

Hi Tyra Well I watch your show this afternoon. Tyra the only thing I want to say is you keep doing what your doing, May our LORD keep blessing you and your family. I'am a 32 yr old Mexican women born and raise in South Central, Los Angeles.I'am a single mother of two, attending school. I met my Haitian Man when I was 19, I thought I had met the man of my dreams, yeah. Little I knew that this Haitian was really a little boy. He's a producer here in L.a. He usually works for his brother won-g. Well he doesnt help his daughter financially nor emotionally ect.its been all me. My advice to these woman who have the choice of not becoming a single mother is to stay single. Our children need both parents their. My daughter cries when she thinks of him. All I have or can do is let her know that she's a wonderfull daughter. And GOD blessed me with her presence. May GOD bless your mother and tell her to write a book for woman. We need to learn to be stronger, and how to teach our children to Love themselves no matter how they look. Because even though the white man stereotypes us, Tyra we are all the same inside. GOD BLESS us all.

Hay Tyra. The episode were the black ladys were put to the test. I didn't think the women was being selfish at all.But its not the smartest idea to plan to become a single mother. If destiny plans it that way and her and the man break-up,so be it. But she needs to give that baby a chance.A chance to have a father. PS. i love my weave!!!!!!!

Hi Tyra! I love your show! I just wanted to say that due to my parents getting a divorce and i having to see them go through the argueing, i at one point in my life did not want to get married or have childeren. I did not want to go through what my parents went through. And i did not want to have my child have to go through what i had to while my parents went through their divorce. As time went on i ended up meeting a great guy who i ended up marrying. And now we have a daughter that just turned 9 months today. But my point is that although i thought i would not get married or have childeren, I have taken that risk at happiness and got married and had a daughter. Even though i had my doubts i must say i am very happy and i am my own person. I will not end up like my parents. And as far as being a single mother, whether its by choice or not, i dont think its selfish. I look up to those single mothers.

I dont think anything is wrong wit a women wanting to have a child without a father. We take care of them by our self so we mights well have them without a man.

Greetings:I just want to add my two cent on the topic today. We have a serious problem as a race of people. one if we invest in ourselves mintally, physically, and spiritually. then we may rise above human frelty. Ive noticed that we all have different issues in our lives. wheather it be family issues or relationship issues. particually its more family issues. due to the fact that how we were brought up in life makes a differnce. not everyone but we do have soicial ills and they are very strong in that area majority of the time. so what we intend to do is find or scape its reality and try to find confort in a relationship with someone who have the same issues. wheather it be premature or more advanced. so once we reconize that. we will never be true recievers. Oh and by the way. I love my Black sistas. Keep doing your thang sistas out there. you are the true queens. everything revolves around you and thats real...

I think children should be raised in a two parent home for a lot of reasons but if for some reason that's not possible..i don't think its selfish.
