I AM A SINGLE MOM. I am proud, I am NOT selfish. (i was also raised my a single mom) I chose to continue raising my kids without the fathers' Help because. It is better for my kids. Its because im selfless that I am a single Mother, and because you know what? I do deserve to be happy and if the father of my child is not the one, so be it! Tyra I have wanted to write in but, I was just too lazy. I'm the same age as you are. I choice to have a baby when I was just a baby at that time myself. In 2000 I was diagnosed with MS so I never got to have time for me. That is ok because I'm sure just like me, your mother told you if you make your bed hard you will have to lays in it. So I bucked it up and took the knot on my head. So If you truly want to have a kid find someone who wants to be with you for the next 20+ years. But, don't under cut yourself with a looser it is not fair to you and at this point that is the most important thing...PS borrow a frinds baby so you can see it is not all fun with someone who takes in all you say a do

It is not selfish to be single mom. I became a single mom at 40. I didn't think it was medically possible for me to become pregnant, so I didn't worry about birth control. I also do not believe in abortion. My daughter's father and I were not in a relationship. It hasn’t been easy and there is no chance of him being involved, but for me, clarity and intent have been vital. What is the intent for having a child? Coming from a place of good intent can help you to gain clarity in being the best that you can be for yourself and your child. The best case scenario is creating a healthy and loving environment. Fighting, yelling, emotional abuse and harming is not healthy. Having an unhealthy relationship with the child’s father or yourself is not honoring anyone and is disrespectful to your child. I am hearing anger, hurt and resentment in reading some of these posts. I know what it is like. I have been there and it is not serving the good of anyone. It is okay to be a single mom, but embrace yourself and your child. Learn to create a positive and loving vision for your life and for your child. Look for lessons to be learned in becoming the best parent. Encourage the village to help you to raise your child. We do not need to walk around with shame for being women and for being single mothers. Let go of anger, disappointment and bitterness. Learn to go a step ahead and look for examples in those who have been successful. Giving life is an honor and a privilege. None of us have to be here.

IAM A SINGLE MOTHER MY DAGHTER IS 2. SHE HAS EPILEPSY. HER DAD DONT DO NOTHING FOR HER WE BE WANTED TO HAVE THIS BABY TOGETHER BUT WHEN SHE CAME HE TOOK OFF. I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS ALL BY MYSELF. SHE HAS EPILEPSY HE LIVES 5 MIN AWAY AND HE STILL DONT COME SEE HER. ITS HARD GOING TO DOCTOR AFTER DOCTOR BECAUSE THEY DONT KNOW WHATS WRONG WITH HER. SHE CAN HAVE UP TO 7 SEVEN SEIZURES A DAY. ITS HARD BUT I GETTING BY. I DONT CARE IF HER DAD DONT COME SHE HER IT HURTING HER NOT ME. I HAVE HIM CHILD SUPPORT AND HE DONT EVEN PAY THAT, SHOW HOW MUCH CARE. GOD BLESS

I am a single mother of a 3 month old. When I was pregnant his father left me and I have only seen him 2 times since then. We were together and actually planned this but of course after it was to late he changed his mind. Well, since then i've been raising my son alone without any financial support from him. I could only breast feed my son for 6 weeks and then i had to return to work. I feel that my son would be way better off without his real father in the picture because of his lifestyle and the way he has treated both me and my son from the day I told him i was pregnant. For someone to say that a child needs both parents to be healthy is in my opinion ignorant. Sometimes it is in the best intrest of the child to have one parent removed for whatever reasons. I do not fear my son growing up and being damaged because his father wasn't around. I am going to do whatever is in my power to do to provide my son with everything he needs. Its not fair to say either way what is best for a child because it depends on the situation and sometimes the situation calls for a single parent.

LOOK UP PEOPLE HOW DONT THINK ITS IN THE CHILDS BEST INTEREST TO HAVE BOTH A MOTHER AND A FATHER. AND IT IS 100% SELFISH FOR A WOMEN TO PUROSELY OR WILLINGLY HAS A CHILD WITH NO FATHER. WHEN 50% OF CHILDREN ARE RAISED IN SINGLE FAMILY HOMES THAT IS A PROBLEM. I HAVE SOOO MUCH TO SAY ON THIS ISSUE ITS RIDICULOUS. AND IF U DONT WATCH THE NEWS, LOOK AT TEST SCORES FROM SCHOOL, AND THE PREGANCY AND DRUG USE RATES AND SEE HOW THEY CORRELATE WITH THE INCREASE OF SINGLE PARENT HOMES. STOP BEING SO STUDPIDLY POLITICALLY CORRECT, KIDS NEED A MOTHER AND A FATHER!!!!!!

I was raised by mother only (and I love her with every ounce in my body) because my father just wanted to be a "sperm donor". He didn't want to be a man and take responsibility for his children. So I was deeply hurt by the thought of my Father not loving me and feeling unwanted. When ever a father's day past bye, I always thought about what it would have been like if my parents never divorced. So I am just basically saying that a child needs both, a mom and a dad, regardless if one or the other is financially well off. When you have a kid, it is not about you any more, it is about them. If you are forced to be a single parent, that is different, but if your just doing it because you want to, thats selfish.

Hi tyra, I love your show! I think is probably one of the most breakthrough talkshows that has ever been made. Thank You for finally developing something worthy and real! As for the topic of choosing to be a single mother, I must say that as a young woman (21 years old), I think that the choose of being a single mother is not selfish at all. How can it be selfish?! Being a great mother and a responsible mother to your children is indeed an independent factor of being a woman. Just because one chooses to be a single mother does not mean that one is isolating the role of a father to one's child. If one was to look at this term "Single mother" as two independent words, then one can understand that choosing to be a single mother is not at all a selfish thing to do. You could be single, while having children, because like many of us (women) have said it is difficult finding a man that would be a perfect match to you and make you happy. So, if you're like me (still waiting) and by the time your 30 and still can't find it, then what....punish yourself by never having children. NO!! You could have a child and still give the biological father the option to be a great father to your kids. It is not necessary for you to be in a relationship. I feel that it is within the men's own discrepancy whether or not they want to be an active, responsible father. Their role as a father is in no way dependent on the fact that they have to be with the mother (as a couple). We have seen experiences where there have been troubled marriages that the couple stay

Hi Tyra I love your show I think that I am one of your greater fans . But for this topic it touched me because I think that a single mother is suppose to be there for their children with or without an man I dont call that selfish because a man has a choice us woman who dont believe in killing life dont once we have the child I rather be by my self then to settle for less like an man not working or a man arguing for nothing and like the man cheating what good is that for your family if your child see you unhappy so I think it is being selfish if you want an man for your own personal needs. I too am a single mother but it was not my choice he chose another woman that he was in love with so okay Let him leave it took a lot away from me but I had explain to the kids why there dad is no longer their and what was going on It was hard to do with out me crying or tears but they knew I was going to be alright and yes since I divorced him I have been through a whole lot of struggles.But with the help of my faith in God sees me through.
