What happens if you get past the proposal but don't quite make it down the aisle? Here's a few pointers on (broken) engagement etiquette.

Can I Keep the Ring?
Carley Roney, Editor-in-Chief of "The Knot" says to give the ring back, especially, if it's a family heirloom. ALSO you might want to check your state's laws. There are different rules about gifts in every state, and engagement rings can be considered a gift or a contract and are subject to different scrutiny in the eyes of the law, depending on how the proposal was made.

BUT if I keep it anyway, what can I do to make it a piece I can wear?
Take that ring and turn it into something wearable, whether you buy a second diamond and make it a set of earrings or make a necklace out of it. Or, you could go the Kim Bassinger route and auction it off for charity.
