Dr. Calvert is a board-certified plastic surgeon. His practice focuses on rhinoplasty, facelifts, breast surgery, and body contouring procedures. Dr. Calvert recommends you take these steps when researching and choosing a plastic surgeon.

  • ASK FOR REFERRALS: Talk to your primary care doctor, family and friends, or patients you know who have had good plastic surgery experiences. The best referrals come from trusted sources.

  • CHECK BOARD CERTIFICATION: Check the doctor's status of board certification in the field of plastic surgery at the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), www.abms.org
  • INTERNET RESOURCES: The American Society of Plastic Surgeons is a great place to find a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area. The website is www.plasticsurgery.org
  • SOCIETY MEMBERSHIPS: Find out if your surgeon is a member of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS); a plastic surgeon cannot be a member of this society unless he or she is board-certified.
  • STATE LICENSING: Check with the state board of medicine to see if your physician is licensed in the state where you are planning your operation.
  • HOSPITAL PRIVILEGES: Find out if your surgeon has privileges to perform your operation at the local hospital. If they do, it means that the medical staffing board of the hospital believes the surgeon is properly trained and credentialed to perform the operation you are having.
  • MALPRACTICE HISTORY: Malpractice suits can be checked through a number of avenues, but may require that you make a trip to the county courthouse to check your doctor. Internet resources are robust in most states.
  • TRAINING: Verify credentials and training.
  • SPECIALTY PROCEDURES: Choose a surgeon known for the procedure you wish to have. Most plastic surgeons have several operations that are their favorite and that they are known for, consistently generating excellent results.
  • MALPRACTICE COVERAGE: Verify malpractice insurance coverage. It is important to know if your surgeon has made a commitment to his patients by carrying some type of malpractice insurance.
  • CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION: It is useful to know if your surgeon attends local and national meetings to keep up on the latest technology. A commitment to on-going education is a sign that your surgeon has not kicked back into relaxation mode.
  • ADVERTISING: Advertising has become quite common for plastic surgeons, dermatologists, facial plastic surgeons, and anti-aging physicians of all types. The market is competitive and advertising is a way to spread the word. However, a large amount of advertising does not necessarily mean anything. You must still look at all of the items listed above and make your own judgment.

Hi Tara, my name is Lakeisha Johnson. I am writing in to your show in regards to some relief. My life has always been pretty simple. At the age of 19 I fell in love with my husband and never looked back. I became married at 21. I was in college at the time and of course dropped out. I then became a mother at the age of 23. We have been married for 13yrs, but have been together for 15yrs we have two children. I have been with him through thick and thin. We never had a church wedding we got married at a court house after my husband had a near death experience with a random act a violence a stray bullet was shot into our car window one night on our way to blockbuster videos. He was shot in the neck but miracleously walked out of the hospital 7 days later, so we rushed to get married not wanting anything else to catch us off guard. Well to get to the meat of things due to some financial situations we are experiencing and personal issues of my husband, he decided to tell me he was through with the marriage and me. This was after I found out he had been calling another woman non-stop. He admitted that he was seeing someone else as he was done with our family that we had been raising and experiencing together. I am in my early 30's and am faced with starting over. I am a student in college and am working part-time as of right now since things will be changing. I just want to feel good about myself again. After my pregnancies I am left with herendous stretch marks that cover my entire stomack and extra skin. My stomach

hi tyra i'm a mother of two beautiful girls one is 10yrs old and the other is 22mths old both my girls are breast fed which is good the only problem is they only suck from my left breast so as a result of that my right breast is really small i'm like a b cup on the left and training bra size on the right and its so hard to go bra shopping because of the abnormal shape of my chest i have to wear padding in the right side of my bra and it also limits the stuff that i can wear like dress and sexy tops i've considered breast implants but need to get in touch with a good doctor so as i was watching your show and saw Dr.Jay Calvert and the wonderful job he did for the young lady with her breast issues it inspired me to write to you and ask for help in making me feel whole again.

hey tyra, i'm 22 yrs old and i have 2 children who are my pride and joy. my oldest is about to be 3 and my youngest is 6 1/2 months. so after having 2 kids gravity really started to take effect on me. it's hard to find bras, hard to feel sexy, especially for my man. even though he never put's me down ever i appreciate that, but i'm the one who has to be happy with myself. i'd be nervous to get plastic surgery done but it's something i know i would do. it's just not affordable at the moment. i've tried looking for some type of pill that might help enhance your breast but there are so many i don't even know where to start.we'll thankyou for taking the time to read. God bless you.

Tyra, I wish I was as confident as you were. I am the oldest of three girls and I am always told I am the prettiest but I don't feel it. I wear a low B in a bra and sometimes think of getting plastice surgery. It is not for anyone but me to feel confident and beautiful. I hear so many horor stories. I know its so expensive out of my family I was the only one who came out small chested. hmmm What advise do you have?

Tyra, I watch your show all the time. I am a single 54 year old woman...I don't think I look too bad...I've had 4 girls;& cervical cancer which makes me look like I have a butt-in-the-front. Hard to separate my sagging breast from my butt-in the front..I don't like being intimate because of this...Is there anything you can do to help me? I also lost all my hair from radiation treaments...so right now I just feel like a nobody. Tyra, I have seen you help so many people in different ways, Can I be one of them? Thank you in advance, your fan Patsy

Hello... I would like to know is their a chance that i can cover my birthmark without having a surgery or maybe use a make-up that will covered the entire mark?

Also in response to Dr.Geldner. Are we speaking of the same doctor? The Doctor Geldner I know is a great doctor who would never treat a patient this way. I just cant stand how some people give such dedicated, talented proffesionals such a bad name.

I have had numerous surgeries by Dr. Geldner. I cant imagine that the story posted is totally true. Dr Geldner and his staff are wonerful, professional people.
